Burlington Hunters New Kings of Tri-State Baseball League

The Burlington Hunters secured their first ever Championship in the Tri-State Baseball League with outstanding pitching and clutch hitting as Burlington rallied late once again to record a 2-0 victory over the Wolcott Scrappers. The Hunters defeated the Scrappers 3-0 on Friday night behind a pitching gem from starter Anthony Izzo with Tim Krol nailing down the save. Saturday Derek Duffy went the distance, scattering five singles, striking out 11 and picked off three Wolcott runners. Tyler Donofrio had a two-out double in the ninth inning to drive in the winning runs. Friday evening Tim Krol knocked in the go ahead run in the sixth inning and Donofrio lined a base hit down the right field line to push across two more runs. Burlington ends the year with a franchise record of 24 wins in a season.

Wolcott’s Drew Rocca and Joe Ferrucci kept Burlington scoreless until the ninth inning. Ethan Stepputtis had two hits for the Scrappers. Alex Sconziano’s very young and talented Scrappers’ team look to be a force in the Tri-State league for years to come.

Tim Krol had a double, and Tommaso Tollis tripled for the Hunters. Burlington Head Coach Andrew Bunger will now be tasked with adding a name plate to the Tri-State League Championship trophy.

NOTE: League rules require that Bunger display the trophy in his home living room – despite objection from Mrs. Bunger. Burlington Hunters founder and previous Head Coach Pat Flynn made his way back to Connecticut for Saturday’s game and joined the team’s festivities in the parking lot after the game. Its political voting season time and Taylor Donofrio began campaigning in the parking lot for the nickname “Mr. August”.
