Scrappers down Plowboys in Game Three; Burlington Hunters advance

With a questionable forecast and steady rain beforehand, the skies cleared up around gametime at Municipal Stadium, and the Wolcott Scrappers( reincarnated addition circa 2024) clinched their first trip to the Tri-State World Series since 2014. Bethlehem opened the bottom of the first with a patented Jon Wilson bunt that got him to second base on a throwing error. A couple defensive miscues and scrappy at bats later and it was 2-0 Bethlehem. The Scrap would immediately respond with a scrappy inning of their own, putting up a 4 spot in the top of the second and never looking back. Wolcott would score 7 unanswered en route to a 9-3 victory.
Joe Ferrucci got the start for the Scrap, and was nails after the first inning, going 8 efficient innings scattering 7 hits. Ethan Stepputtis struck out 2 in relief. AJ Martinez had 2 big hits, including a double, leading to 4 RBI and some huge insurance runs for Wolcott. Carson Lentini had 2 hits, including a double and 2 runs, and we now await his very own “The Decision” on Friday. Joe Sconz and Nick Sconz both had a hit and scored twice, although Nick refused to make a good throw to end the game on a double play opportunity. In other news, the Scrap put up a mediocre postgame performance, but thank the Plow for their hospitality.
For Bethlehem, Blaise Russo got the start and gave up 0 earned runs in 3 1/3, punching out 4. Kyle Daddona also struck out 5 in 3 innings of relief. Matt Palumbo and Ryan Ponte both had doubles for the Plowboys, and Nate Cormier had 2 hits, a run scored, and a couple stolen bases.

Bethlehem Plowboys 6  Wolcott Scrappers 2

Nate Cormier collected three hits in four at bats, as the Plowboys defeated the Wolcott Scrappers 6-2 on Sunday at Wolcott BAW. Cormier tripled in the eighth inning, singled in the seventh inning, and singled in the first inning. Sawyer Gravel took the hill for Bethlehem, he struck out 10 batters on the day. The righty also surrendered two hits and two runs over six innings while walking three. The Plowboys got on the board early in the first inning after Isaiah Johnson singled, scoring Cormier. An error gave the Wolcott Scrappers the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth. Cormier singled to center field, which helped Plowboys tie the game at two in the top of the seventh.

The Plowboys woke up and  captured the lead, 6-2, in the top of the eighth when Kyle Daddona singled, scoring one run, Alec Ash induced Joe Rupe to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Cormier tripled, scoring two runs. TJ Angiolini earned the win for the Plowboys. The southpaw gave up one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Ash took the loss for Wolcott Scrappers. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two. Aiden Bisallion began the game for Wolcott Scrappers. The starter surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking five.

The Plowboys accumulated 10 hits in the game. Ryan Ponte collected two hits for Plowboys in four at bats. Chase Belisle paced Plowboys with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Plowboys ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. Carson Lentini, Nick Sconziano, and Aidan Kane each collected one hit for the Scrappers. The Plow and Wolcott seem to have a thing for game 3s against each other. The winner of tomorrow’s game has Burlington (who took in the game at Wolcott today, cheering for both squads indulging in a couple adult sodas) in the World Series next weekend!
