Burlington Hunters 3  Waterbury Mountain Boys 1

The Burlington Hunters defeated the Waterbury Mountain Boys 3-1 to take game 1 of the first round series. The Hunters once again found themselves in a pitchers duel. Mountain Boys’ Spencer Fox and Hunter’s Derek Duffy kept both opposing offenses quiet through the first 6 innings.  In the top of the 7th the Mountain Boys took the first lead of the game thanks to an Izaiah Walker RBI single. In the bottom of the 7th the Hunters rallied to take the lead. Ty Morin singled to start the inning, Andrew Bunger then doubled to put the tying and go ahead runs in scoring position. Jacob Paschetto then drove a ball over the centerfield fence for a 3-run homer to take the lead. Duffy, who scattered 4 hits while striking out 16, would then slam the door over the final 2 innings to secure the win.
Game Highlights:
Sway rushed to the local Planet Fitness after the game to prepare for tomorrows game by hopping on the massage chair while setting off the lunk alarm; Steve Caruso played a great right field running down a few balls and threw a runner out going for second; and finally, Taylor Donofrio is still in Puerto Rico sipping on Pina Coladas and not helping the ball club.

Bethlehem Plowboys 10   CT Sliders 2

Nate Cormier collected four hits in five at bats, as Plowboys defeated CT Sliders 10-2 on Saturday at Plow. Cormier hit a solo home run to center field in the eighth inning, singled in the sixth inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning. Plowboys got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Jarrett Michaels walked, and Ty Harkness hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Montini hit a solo home run to center field in the top of the sixth for the CT Sliders. Plowboys added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on three hits. Cormier hit a solo home run to center field, and Chase Belisle doubled, scoring one run.

Carsten Donovan earned the win for Plowboys. The righty surrendered six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Henry Marino took the loss for CT Sliders. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out two and walking four. Sam Williams threw two innings of scoreless ball for Plowboys in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out one and walking none.

Plowboys collected 11 hits in the game. Jon Wilson and Isaiah Johnson each collected multiple hits for Plowboys. Belisle led Plowboys with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Plowboys ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. Plowboys didn’t commit a single error in the field. Belisle had the most chances in the field with 10. Montini and Marino each collected two hits for CT Sliders. Montini and Marino each drove in one run for CT Sliders.

Game 2 will be tomorrow at 4p at Municipal Stadium!

Wolcott Scrappers 5   Tri-Town Trojans 1

The Wolcott Scrappers took Game 1 over the Tri-town Trojans by the score of 5-1. Alec Ash was outstanding on the mound for the Scrap going 6 2/3 innings allowing no earned runs and striking out 9. Drew “ Wild Thing” Rocca and Ethan Stepputtis added scoreless appearances on the bump. Offensively for the Scrap Carson Lentini led off the game with a booming double and scored on a 10 foot hit by Rocca. Rocca would later add another rbi single. Benny boy Bianchi came up clutch with an rbi single to break a 1-1 tie in the 6th.  Stepputtis gave the Scrap some breathing room in the 7th by finally leaving the yard with a 2 run bomb to left to increase the lead to 4-1. The playoff Dunnes pitched in with Josh collecting 2 hits scoring a run and Joe singling and  scoring in the 8th. Willy Yahn continued to destroy baseballs for the Trojans with 2 doubles and a run scored. Miles Scribner was game on the mound going 8 innings allowing 4 earned and striking out 6 with no walks.

Candlewood Kraken 9   Winsted Whalers 2

Candlewood Kraken scored seven runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Winsted Whalers 9-2 on Saturday. Zach Mars doubled, scoring one run, Kyle Bennett singled, scoring two runs, John John Coniglio drew a walk, scoring one run, and Nick Lobuono doubled, scoring three runs.

Mason Berna earned the win for Candlewood Kraken. The starter allowed two hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out nine. Leo Paragrino tossed two innings of zero-run ball for Candlewood Kraken in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out five and walking one.

Kraken travel to Winsted for game 2.
