Wolcott Scrappers 1 Tri-Town Trojans 0
The Scrap got back in the win column yesterday with a 1-0 win over Tri-Town at Community Field. Wolcott got on the board in the first after Drew Rocca singled, stole a couple bags, and was brought home on an AJ Martinez ground out. After that, Alec Ash (Wolcott) and Dan Livingston (Tri-Town) settled into a pitchers duel, keeping both sides on their toes with some good stuff and wonky motions. Ash would go 6 innings and record 5 Ks, while Livingston went an efficient 7 earning the tough-luck loss. Ethan Stepputtis earned the save in the 7th, passing up on the 1-2-3 inning by hitting a batter with an errant changeup.
For Tri-Town, Willy Yahn doubled and Miles Wilson reached bases twice. David Cardinale reached in both plate appearances for the Scrappers, while Martinez, Stepputtis, and Joe Dunne also recorded hits.
The Scrap miss Cap and Dillon very much, although two straight Aidan Kane and Luke Colfer appearances were inspiring.
Burlington Hunters 15 CT Sliders 1
The Burlington Hunters defeated the CT Sliders 15-1 to secure their 13th win of the year in the first game of the annual Tri-State Dunkin Series. Anthony Izzo earned the win on the mound tossing 5 innings, scattering 4 hits while striking out 11. The Hunters offense exploded for 16 hits including 3 homeruns. MVP George Zaruba swatted 2 of them and Justin McCulloch (yes he is still in the league) launched a grand slam, has to be a record for oldest player in Tri-State history to do so. Tim Krol had a 4 hit day and almost had the 4th home run of the game, but he is not as strong as Zaruba or McCulloch. Chad Lavelle, Steve Caruso, and Jacob Paschetto all had multi hit days as well. For the Sliders, Joe DiCrosta, Tyler Giambra, Ryan Montini, Steve Morin all recorded hits, and Josh Dobratz launched an opposite field home run. This Thursday, the Sliders are back in action against the Valley Ducks at Municipal Stadium, and the Hunters take on the Canton Crushers in the second game of the Tri-State Dunkin series.
Game Highlights: Fans couldn’t believe it when Taylor Donofrio touched 81 on the gun; Jason Pelletier had this biggest hit of the night when he finally landed a flip on Jacob Paschetto in the post game celebration; and the biggest disappointment of the night, Josue “Sway”Lopez was nowhere to be found, though he probably would have only hit another 384ft single like last year.
Canton Crushers 12 Torrington Thunder 6
- Angel Christiano With 3 Hits As Canton Crushers Beat Torrington Thunder 12-6
Angel Christiano collected three hits in four at bats, Tuesday night at Fuessenich Park. Christiano doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Christiano also earned the win for Canton. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and four runs over five innings, striking out three and walking none.
Kyle Meholick took the loss for the Thunder. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out one.
Jake Bryant appeared in relief for Canton Crushers.
Canton piled up 12 hits in the game. Ben Sullivan and Christiano were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Andrew Tremley and Nate Hiscox each collected multiple hits for the Crushers.
Kyle Gordon, Jack McCoy, and Justin Dattel each collected two hits for Torrington
