Winsted Whalers 10 Bethlehem Plowboys 6
It was a hitter’s day for sure. Before this game, the Whale only scored two runs over two games, both coming from solo homeruns. That would change for the better. Just in the first inning, Johnny Lippincott poked a two-run homerun to right center, and with a throwing error from the Bethlehem defense, the Whale went up 4-0. In the 3rd inning, four Whaler players would stack hits together with an RBI single by Adam Wright and a two run RBI double by Andrew Ferrucci. Moving to the bottom 4th, Johnny Lippincott would AGAIN poke a 3 run HR to the same exact spot in right center, going 2-2, 2 HR, 1 BB, 5 RBI for the night. Homeruns are a beer shotgunnable offense and Lippincott did NOT do two that night. Adam Wright would also go 2-2, 2 Singles, 1RBI.
The 4th inning was like a switch being flipped. Being 10-0, the Whale had to prevent the Bethlehem offense from making a generational run and oh boy was Bethlehem eager. Freddie Camp would single in the top of the 4th, eventually using his speed to steal third and easily making it home on a passed ball, 10-1. Bottom 5th got worse for the Whale. Ryan Ponte poked a double in right center ending the game for the Whale starter, Jay Torres, who finished the game 4 IP, 2 ER, 5K, 3HBP, 1BB, 3 Hits allowed. God forbid the Whale pitching staff tries to keep walks-per-inning below a 1.0. As for the Whale’s relief pitcher, we will keep his name on the down low due to what Bethlehem did in the following inning, sorry Adam Tedesco. Chase Belisle smoked a ball to right center, sending it far enough on the non-fenced field to score an inside the parker, scoring 2 RBI, 10-3. Two more batted singles would come, followed by a missile by Jarrett Michaels running out a triple, scoring two more runs, 10-5. Heading into the 6th, Ryan Ponte again put a ball over the center-field bushes, about 380 feet, solo HR to make the score 10-6. There is a reason Rich Revere, Bethlehem’s head coach, later galloped like a fairy with his 2025 TriState World Series Trophy around the parking lot, Bethlehem’s got offense. Taking a gamble, the Whale would put Casey Weingart (Starting Pitcher) in to close the 7th. Not confirmed but Weingart might not have a single career save in his pocket. A betting man would have lost his money because Weingart would close the side out, ending the game 10-6, Whale win.
Talks after the game revealed the Whale haven’t won over the Plowboys since Lippincott started playing, which is easily 10+ years ago.
