Bethlehem Plowboys 16   Canton Crushers 7

The Plowboys win on a game that was finished out thanks to the only light coming from the heat lightning in they sky, 16-7 over the Canton Crushers, there was certainly no pitch clock as this 7 inning game turned into a 3 hour affair. Justin Koutros took the bump for the Plow, opposing some old ECSU teammates from 1950 as well, in the Spirito brothers who also played very well, going 3 strong innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. Cam Gaudet opposed Koutros, throwing 6.2 innings being responsible for all 16 Plow runs and striking out 2. The Bethlehem bats were once again led by… everyone! Joe Rupe and Ricky Descoteaux had 4 hits apiece while Matt Palombo, Chase Belisle, Alex James, Captain Greg Campbell, Jon Conlon, Jarrett Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and Matt Mancini all reached base multiple times. The heart and hustle award goes to Jon Conlon, after hitting 2 foul home runs Jon showed the true meaning of being a Plowboy, running out a grounder to third and ends up being safe on a bad throw, then in the 7th when the Plow needed it, scoring from 1st to home on a double by Campbell. Sam Williams, Blaise Russo, and Matt Sibilia all pitched admirably to hold off the Canton bats which were led by Nick Rose hitting a 2 run bomb in the bottom of the 7th. The score was 7-5 going into the top of the seventh and after some light hearted chirping back and forth, you ever hear the term don’t poke the bear? (Not Bahre from Canton but maybe don’t poke him either) The Plow exploded for 9 runs in the top of the 7th to lock up the win! We tip our caps to Canton as they are always good sports and great postgame company!

CT Gamecocks 4   Naugatuck Nightmare 3

The gamecocks won a very closely contested game against the nightmare 4-3 at Naugatuck high school Thursday night. The gamecocks got on the board early with a Josh Dobratz solo shot but couldn’t capitalize on a based loaded opportunity after that. The game remained 1-0 until the middle innings when a ball dropped between the 1st baseman and right fielder (smith isn’t the fastest outfielder) allowing the tying run to score . In the sixth Naugatuck took the lead when beadle hit a long double off the left center field fence , eventually scoring on a sac fly by Spads making it 2-1 nightmare entering the final frame. The first two batters for the gamecocks were quickly retired in the top of the seventh . A bloop hit by Josh Dobratz set up the TWO Pats to shine. Smith hit a line drive double over the centerfielder to score Dobratz from first base. Raymond followed with a two run home run over the right field monster to make it 4-2 gamecocks . Naugatuck rallied to score a run in the bottom half but left the tying run on third. Ian Glover pitched 7 strong for the gamecocks in what was his first ever tri state start. Christian pitched well for Naugatuck keeping hitters off balance most of the night. What is currently the play in match up has had the season series split between these two teams, should be an exciting last week of the season when the rain finally clears up.
