Winsted Whalers 6  Amenia Monarchs 5,   Winsted Whalers 6   Amenia Monarchs 1

The makeup game would resume at Walker, with Casey Weingart on the mound for the Whale and Dunlop on the mound for Amenia. Amenia would load the bases, with no hits, only to out the inning by a close double play. Winsted, up to bat, would have their top guy, Johnny Ambrozaitis, lead off and try to place the bunt down to get the runner on 2nd to third. The Whale coaching would mess up and forget to tell Johnny that a bat on the shoulders cannot bunt a ball. This would lead to 2 watched strikes and no bunt laid down. Dunlop would put an end to that inning. Top 2nd, Weingart would clear the side with ease. Bottom 2nd, Austin Brochu, the Whale’s absolute, no question, non-debatable, fastest baserunner would start on 2nd base per league rules. All it takes is one hit and Lukas Gryniuk provided. Using a brick of a bat, he would barely clear the third baseman’s head with a hard hit single and score Austin with ease. Final Score: Whale 6 – Amenia 5.

Casey Weingart would continue from the makeup game and start this one. Amenia would start Caener on the mound. Weingart would throw 5 IP, with 2K, 2BB, 6 Hits, and 1ER; another great start for his rookie year. Mark Cummings would come in and close the game out, facing 7 batters and only allowing a walk. As for the Whale offense, who did in fact show up tonight, would score 6 on the day. Jay Torres (2-2, 1B,3B,2BB), Austin Brochu (0-3), and Chet Warner (0-1, HBP, SAC) leading the league in HBP, and others would score those runs. Final Score: Whale 6 – Amenia 1.

Game recap coming…

Burlington Hunters 7   Canton Crushers 3 at Dunkin Donuts Park

On a perfect night for baseball in Hartford, CT at Dunkin’ Park, the Burlington Hunters took on the Canton Crushers.  Both teams would like to thank the following sponsors for helping to make the game possible at the pristine ballpark:  Mid-Connecticut Dance Company, RAM Specialty Fabrications, Hidden Valley Miniature Golf and Waterfront Grille, and Richard’s Corporation.

A great night of baseball would end with a 7-3 Hunters victory, improving their record to 9-4.  Alex Stackpole got the start on the mound for the Hunters and threw 3 strong innings, striking out 3 and only allowing 1 hit.  Alex Hansen would come in relief to earn the victory out of the bullpen.  Ryan Lavelle had a big day at the plate for the Hunters, with two hits, including a double, as well as driving in 3 runs.  Ty Morin, George Zaruba, and Andrew Bunger also contributed with hits.

Fun Facts of the Game include:  Jobu is 2-0 since joining the Hunters in the dugout, Future Hunters Stephen O’Keefe and Myles Dablain stole the show in full uniform and by helping retrieve the bats and foul balls during the game, team officials will be offering both young men contracts for the remainder of the year after a job well done, and lastly after a statewide search involving multiple police agencies and the National Guard, Hunter reliever Tyler Doyle was finally found safe and unharmed.  In his return Doyle pitched a solid scoreless inning in relief.
