Bethlehem Plowboys 11   Burlington Hunters  1

The Plowboys opened up the season with a W over the Hunters of Burlington 11-1! Tyler Boisvert made his Plowboy debut throwing 6 strong with a sliced finger after a battle with a watermelon the day prior, scattering 2 hits 1 unearned run, and striking out 6. Boisvert was countered on the mound by the hard throwing lefty Alex Stackpole who threw the ball well, going 5 plus innings striking out 4 Plowboy batters. Burlington opened up the scoring early on two errors in the first followed by an RBI single by Diaz. The Plowboys would go on to score 11 unanswered runs powered by old reliable’s Jon Wilson, Greg Campbell, and Matt Mancini. Ryan Reynolds knocked in a 2 RBI single in the 5th to aid the plow attack, and new comer Colby Linnell reached base in 4/5 at bats on the day. This game was not just a bunch of young studs tho, Burlington had 18 year veteran Matt Dablain playing third base and on Bethlehem’s side Justin Koutros closed out the ninth for Bethlehem.

Amenia Monarchs 8   Canton Crushers 7 (11 innings)

Amenia rallies to spoil season opener for Crushers with 8-7 win in 11 innings

AMENIA, N.Y., May 21, 2023 – The Amenia Monarchs scored four times in the ninth inning to tie the game and scored twice in the eleventh inning to win it with a 8-7 win over the Canton Crushers in the Tri-State League opener for both teams Sunday at Doc Bartlett Field.

Canton, beginning their ninth season in the league, had a 6-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning but couldn’t hold it. Amenia cut the lead to four runs after adding a run in the eighth thanks to two Crusher errors. In the ninth, Amenia took advantage of three walks and two errors to tie the game at 6-6. Canton took a 7-6 lead in the eleventh inning on a RBI single from catcher Jeff Mulhall but Amenia won the game on a two-out double.

Jack Rose led the way at the plate for the Crushers, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Jake Bryant was 2-for-5 with a double while Jim Spirito was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Matt Rose had a single and two RBI for Canton. James Michanczyk got the start for Canton and went six strong innings. He gave up just one run, four hits and struck out seven.

 

Naugatuck Nightmare 8    Winsted Whalers 6 (game played 5/28)

Winsted and Naugatuck Kicked off the Memorial Day weekend with a 8-6 battle. T-Noss started the Evening strong on the hill for Naugatuck going 5 solid innings allowing only 2 on the bump. Naugatucks bats were hot carried by Sam Beadle (2-4) with 2 doubles 4 rbis and a Hbp and Angel Valentin who went 3-3 3 singles with 2 walks and 3 runs scored. Christian Cuevas and Matt Morelli came through to help Naugatuck Jump out to a 4-2 lead each with a 2 run single to right in the 3rd. But Winsted would jump right back in it and nod it at 4-4 in the 5th. A back and forth Affair would lead us to a 8-6 game going into the 8th and that’s where the dust would settle as Angel Valentin would come in for the final 2 and close the door to seal the Nightmares win. The winsted bats were led by Andrew Billig , Austin Brochu , Chet Warner , and Mark Cummings who also had a strong day on the hill Limiting the Nightmares to 4runs through 5.
