Winsted Whalers 5, Torrington Rebels 0:  Donny Crossman faced the minimum number of batters in a complete game one-hitter as the Winsted Whalers defeated the Torrington Rebels 5-0 at Fuessenich Park in Tri-State Baseball League action Thursday evening.  Crossman gave up the one hit, to Tico Arcienega, then immediately got a double play.  Crossman struck out 10 in the win.  Winsted (11-8) pushed across a single run in the first, then scored three times in the fifth on an error and back-to-back RBI singles by Crossman and Zac Tuozzo. The Whalers added one more run in the sixth. Brandon Cordani took the loss for Torrington, which drops to 6-12.
Terryville Black Sox 4, Bristol Greeners 3 (8 innings):  Jim Mischke’s RBI double in the bottom of the eighth lifted Terryville to a win over Bristol at the Old Terryville High School.  Mischke had two hits and two RBI for the Black Sox (7-9).  Dan Baccaro had two doubles and two RBI while Pat Norton went 3-for-3.  Billy Armstrong picked up the complete game win for Terryville. Ryan Dudzinski and Matt Godbout each doubled for the Greeners (9-8).  Dave Casanova took the loss in relief of starter Mike Hay.
Litchfield Cowboys 2, Amenia Monarchs 1: Kevin Murray threw a complete game and Travis Dreher made a diving catch to end the game as Litchfield topped Amenia at Community Field.  Leland McKenna went 2-for-3 with a run batted in and run scored for the Cowboys.  Karl Quist went 1-for-3 for the Cowboys, who improve to 7-10.  Matt Hosier went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI for the Monarchs (11-8).  Chris Matteo and Jim Robertson also went 2-for-3 for Amenia.
TriBury Pavers 3, Mazda Dodge Red Devils 2:  Andrew Jones’ walkoff triple scored Jamie Kimberly with the game-winning run in a TriBury win over Mazda Dodge at Nonnewaug High School.  Kimberly led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk.  The Pavers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on an inside-the-park homer by Tim Rose, who had to go to the hospital after suffering a compound fracture of a finger when he slid into home plate.  Taylor Searles picked up the complete game win (2 runs, 0 earned runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts) for TriBury, which improves to 7-8.  D.J. Dyer picked up the loss for the Red Devils (4-12).  Dyer gave up three earned runs on three hits. He struck out six and walked three.
Tri-Town Trojans 6, Burlington Hunters 3 (10 innings):  In a continuation of a suspended game, Joe Bunnell singled in the 10th inning to put Tri-Town ahead in a win over Burlington at Lewis Mills High School. Bunnell went 2-for-4 with the single, a double, and two RBI. Landon Gardella (2-for-5, double, 2 RBI) and Nick Lahoud (2-for-4, double, RBI) also had two hits for the Trojans.  Lahoud drove in a run in the three-run 10th inning with a bunt.  Miles Scribner pitched 4.2 innings in relief to pick up the win for the Trojans.  Kyle Cruz took the loss in relief for the Hunters.
Tri-Town Trojans 8, Burlington Hunters 0:  Miles Scribner picked up his second win of the day and Greg Bodnar launched a grand slam for a Tri-Town win over Burlington at Lewis Mills High School.  Scribner pitched six innings for the victory.  Bodnar’s slam came in a seven-run sixth inning for the Trojans (9-9).  Nick Lahoud went 2-for-3 with a run batted in while Danny McCarty doubled for Tri-Town.  Kyle Cruz was the losing pitcher for the Hunters (7-10).
Naugatuck Dogs 3, Brass City Brew 1:  Macky Cianciolo and Lance Stevens combined on a three-hitter with seven strikeouts at Waterville Park. Bob Augelli added an RBI single for Naugatuck (9-6), and Matt Smolley chipped in with two hits.  Ryan Russell also doubled and scored.  Matt Wahl singled and scored for Brass City (12-5).
Bethlehem Plowboys 4, Thomaston Spoilers 0:  David Fredlund got his second win of season, giving up two hits over 5 innings.  Jon Conlon pitched the sixth, and Matt Parlato the 7th.  Bobby McMahon capped off a 4-run 4th inning with a 2-run single.  Nick Chiovitti contributed with 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.
Prospect Hearts 3, Waterbury Wild 1:  Mike Valente pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts and Dan Gugliotti added an RBI single for the Hearts (2-16).  Waterbury (7-9) was led by Adam Roque, who allowed just three hits over six innings, and Ken Kerski, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple.
NOTES: Former Torrington High School standout David Alexander is getting his shot with the newest team in town, the Torrington Titans. Alexander, who tried out for the team back in June, but found the position he played, first base, was occupied by Josh Winter. With Winter gone for the season due to an injury, a spot has opened up. Alexander saw his first action against Team Canada on Tuesday night at first base, and struck out in his lone at bat in the sixth inning. Alexander attended Manchester Community College the past two years before transferring to Fitchburg State. He batted .304 for the Eagles in 2010 with three home runs and eight RBI. He graduated from THS in 2006 after lettering in both baseball and basketball and has been a member of the Tri-State League, Torrington Rebels team this summer. The Titans have also moved Brandon Smith into the closer role. Smith, who has pitched to a 2-2 record to date, is being moved to the pen because of an injury to former Housatonic standout and Tri-State League Winsted Whaler Brooks Belter.
