The Burlington Hunters defeat the Canton Crushers 8-0 to improve their record to 12-1.  Derek Duffy earned the win on the mound logging 6 innings, just 3 hits while striking out 10.  Ty Morin and Tim Krol closed the game out in relief, securing the shutout.  Cam Gaudet held the Hunters lineup in check for the most part until Tim Krol swatted a long fly ball to right field that scored 3 runs.  Sean O’Donnell and Zack Rinkavage also led the way offensively for the Hunters with multi-hit games.  This Tuesday, Canton looks to get back in the winning column against the Torrington Thunder while the Hunters take on the CT Sliders at Dunkin’ Park for the first game of the Annual Tri-State Dunkin’ Series.  

Game Highlights: Zack Rinkavage tried to make a nice play diving for a foul ball, but came up 10 feet short, legend has it he is still laying there; After the game the Crushers, Umpires, and Neil joined the Hunters in their annual cookout; and finally Taylor Donofrio skipped everything to play in the Swanson Family Foundation Charity Softball Tournament, knocking out former Hunter Alex Rauso, but lost in the finals like a bozo.

Bethlehem Plowboys 10   Wolcott Scrappers 4

Ryan Ponte drove in four runs on two hits to lead Plowboys past Wolcott Scrappers 10-4 on Sunday at Plow. Ponte singled in the fifth inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the sixth inning, scoring one. Austin Brown struck out 11 batters on the day. The righty surrendered 10 hits and four runs over six and one-third innings while walking none.

A ground out by Ponte put Plowboys on the board in the bottom of the first. Ryan Ciampi singled down the right field line, which helped Wolcott Scrappers tie the game at one in the top of the second. A single by Alex James gave Wolcott Scrappers the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Plowboys went back into the lead after Ponte singled down the right field line, Brett Davino grounded out, and Carsten Donovan doubled to center field, each scoring two runs. AJ Martinez homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh for the Wolcott Scrappers.

Emer took the loss for Wolcott Scrappers. Martinez started the game for Wolcott Scrappers. The pitcher surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking none. TJ Angiolini threw two and two-thirds innings of shutout ball for Plowboys in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out three and walking none. Plowboys piled up 11 hits in the game. Jarrett Michaels led Plowboys with three hits in four at bats. Plowboys had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Joe Rupe, Jon Wilson, Nate Cormier, and Chase Belisle led the team with two walks each. Wilson stole two bases. Plowboys ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game.

Wolcott Scrappers piled up 11 hits in the game. Martinez provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Wolcott Scrappers with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-5 on the day. Martinez, David Cardinale, Nick Sconziano, and Aidan Kane each collected two hits for Wolcott Scrappers. Wolcott Scrappers turned one double play in the game.

Plowboys will travel to Canton Crushers for their next game on Sunday.
