Bethlehem Plowboys 5   Winsted Whalers 3

The Plow bested the Winsted Whalers 5-3 on Thursday. Bethlehem got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Jesse Swartout grounded into a fielder’s choice, Jarrett Michaels doubled down the left field line, and Ryan Reynolds singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Plowboys added one run in the third after Michaels doubled to center field. Mark  Cummings hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth for the Winsted Whalers. Carsten Donovan earned the win for Plowboys. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. Casey  Weingart took the loss for Winsted Whalers. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits, striking out six and walking two. Plowboys collected 11 hits in the game. Swartout and Michaels were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Plowboys. Brett Davino went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Plowboys in hits. Freddie Camp collected two hits for Plowboys in four at bats. Cummings  and Chet Warner each collected two hits for Winsted Whalers. Jay  Torres, Johnny Lippincott, and Cummings each drove in one run for Winsted Whalers. Winsted Whalers turned two double plays in the game. Winsted Whalers were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. The Plowboys not so much committing 3 errors on the day. Next up for the Plowboys is a game against Valley Ducks on Tuesday.

Candlewood Kraken 10   Torrington Thunder 2

Candlewood Kraken Defeat Torrington Thunder Behind Strong Performance From Quinn McGuire. McGuire was dominant on the hill, as the lefty rang up 10 strikeouts in Candlewood Kraken’s 10-2 victory over Torrington Thunder on Thursday at New Milford High School. McGuire gave up three hits and two runs over six innings while walking two. Torrington Thunder opened the scoring in the first after Kyle Green grounded out, scoring one run. Braydon Stellato grounded out, which helped Candlewood Kraken tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second inning, Candlewood Kraken took the lead after Zach Mars walked, Jake Coniglio walked, and Stellato grounded out, each scoring one run. Three more Candlewood Kraken runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-2. Stellato singled, scoring one run, and Spencer Barnett homered to left field, scoring two runs. Candlewood Kraken will travel to Wolcott for their next game on Sunday.

Wolcott Scrappers 9   CT Sliders 1

The scrap won their 3rd straight on Thursday with a 9-1 win over the sliders at the BAW. Wolcott broke the game (and the water jug) open in the bottom of the 6th with a 6 spot to put the game away. Alec Ash got the start for the Scrap, going 4.2 innings with 1 earned run. Dillon Fernandes and Drew Rocca combined for 4 Ks to finish the game. Nick Sconziano and Alex James led the Scrappers with 2 hits, and Nick stretched out a double while whining about his leg. Ben Bianchi had 2 RBIs and Dillon Fernandes had 2 runs, however he couldn’t get it done in some big spots with some friends in the stands. For the Sliders, Ian Glover went a solid 5 innings with 3 Ks, and Ryan Montini doubled.
