Winsted Whalers 6   Torrington Thunder 4

The Whale faced off against the Thunder under the lights at Fuessenich park; doesn’t get much better than that. Peter Greenwood started for the Whale and made a great start going 4IP with 0ER, 3K, 4 hits, and 4 walks; 9 games into the season and the Whale have yet to have a starter that keeps walks/innings below a 1.0. The Thunder put Angel Santana on the mound who also threw a great game. He held the game close, going 4.2 innings, 6 ER, 5K, 6hits, and 2 walks.

Just in the first inning, the Whale made 3 infield errors, allowing the Thunder to go up 3-0. Excuses were sun this, sun that. To be fair, the sun at 7:00PM there is extremely bad. The Thunder would put up another run in the 5th when Jay Torres, relief pitcher, would forget how to hold a guy on 1st which resulted in the runner getting to 2nd. Two past balls later, that runner scored, making it 4 runs scored for the night on behalf of the Thunder. Robert Anton led the offense going 2-4 (Single, Double) and being a menace on the base path. Other than that, Jay Torres would go 3 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, no hits, and OF COURSE 3 walks.

As for the Whaler offense, key hits by Mark Cummings and TJ Kent in the 2nd led to 3 runs. Adam Tedesco in the 3rd got his second hit for the season for a leadoff double, later scoring. Jay Torres, Steele Brobston, and to everyone’s surprise, Adam Tedesco again rallied hits in the 5th for another 2 runs. To be fair, Tedesco has only had a very small amount of 24 plate appearances this season so far. Tedesco led the offense 2-3 (Single, Double) with Mark Cummings 1-2 (Double, HBP). Whale 6 – Thunder 4

Betting odds for Austin Brochu to get his first hit of the season next game are at a +300.
