Candlewood Kraken 5 Bethlehem Plowboys 4
On an iffy weather night, the Candlewood Kraken stormed back to top the Bethlehem Plowboys 5-4. The Kraken trailed by as many as four runs during the game as Candlewood didn’t take the lead until later in the game. The Kraken were down 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning when Danny Reid doubled, scoring two runs.
Plowboys were the first to get on the board in the fifth when Brett Davino hit a grand slam to right field. Kraken jumped into the lead in the top of the seventh when Spencer Barnett singled, scoring one run, and Reid doubled, scoring two runs. Quinn McGuire began the game for the Kraken on the mound and the starter allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Austin Brown stepped on the bump first for Plowboys. The righty gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Angelo Centrone pitched three innings of shutout ball for Candlewood Kraken in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out three and walking five.
Reid and Barnett were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Kraken. Barnett went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Candlewood in hits. Davino provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Plowboys with four runs batted in. Jon Wilson, Ryan Ponte, Dylan Chung, Nate Cormier, and Davino each collected one hit for Plowboys. Chase Belisle paced Plowboys with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game.
