Canton Crushers 7   CT Sliders 3

CANTON, July 20, 2025 – The Sullivan brothers combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate with five runs scored and three extra base hits to lead the Canton Crushers to a 7-3 win over the Connecticut Sliders on Sunday at Bowdoin Field in Tri-State League baseball action. Canton (5-11) has now won two of their last three games as Canton rapped out a season-high 14 hits.Mike Sullivan was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a double while Ben Sullivan was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two triples. Six of Canton’s 14 hits were for extra bases. Tony Nicoletti had a pair of doubles and two RBI while Noah Asmar also had a double and one RBI. CT Sliders, based out of Southington, took a 3-0 lead but the Crushers scored seven unanswered runs. Relievers Jake Bryant and Angel Varano each pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out two. Bryant picked up the win. Trailing 3-1, Ben Sullivan ripped a triple down the right field line and scored on Bryant’s single to cut the lead to one in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Canton tied the game at 3-3. With one out, Mike Sullivan singled and stole second base. Daniel Petro walked to put two men on base. Varano grounded to shortstop while Mike Sullivan scored from second base. In the sixth, Ben Sullivan led off with a triple. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Angel Christiano to give Canton a 4-3 lead.

A two-out rally in the seventh gave Canton a 7-3 lead. Mike Sullivan singled and scored on Asmar’s double. After a walk to Varano, Nicoletti doubled to left field to drive in two more runs. A week ago, veteran pitcher Jim Spirito pitched a nine-inning complete game as the Crushers shutout Torrington, 2-0 at Bowdoin Field. Spirito struck out 10 and walked just three. On Tuesday, Tri-Town beat the Crushers, 13-2 at Community Field. Canton returns to action on Tuesday with their third trip to Dunkin Park in Hartford to face Burlington (13-4) at 6:30 p.m. Dunkin Park is home of the Hartford Yard Goats, the Double A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Valley Ducks 5  Winsted Whalers 1

With the Ducks on a downward spiral- the captain took the mound on Sunday looking to right the ship. Ty “Greinke” Pelletier tossed a complete game gem (9ip, 3 hits, 10k, 0bb). He also went 2-4 on the day at the plate. Angel Torres had two doubles, drove in a run, and scored during a big offensive day. Chris Oliwa also had 2 hits, including a solo home run. Shane Fusco smacked a base hit into right field in the 7th, which ultimately turned into a 2 run little league home run. Owen McMahon went 2-3 for Winsted with a solo home run.

Wolcott Scrappers 4  Torrington Thunder 1

The Wolcott Scrappers used pitching, defense and some timely hitting to defeat a tough Torrington team 4-1 at the BAW in a game shortened to 7 innings due to rain.  Zach Lawlor started on the bump for the Scrap and limited the Thunder to no runs on on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 innings for the win. Nate Ehmer followed with 2 innings of 1 run and 3k relief and then AJ Martinez earned the save.

Nick Sconziano led the offense with 2 hits, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored while Josh Dunne, Joe Dunne and Martinez all had hits and rbi’s. The Scrap turned 2 inning ending double plays, 6-4-3 and 5-4-3 and did not commit an error in the contest. Bryce Adamski, Robert Anton and Tyler Brzezicki all had 2 hits for the Thunder.

Burlington Hunters 10  Amenia Monarchs 0

The Burlington Hunters extended their winning streak to 6 games defeating the Amenia Monarchs 10-0.  Derek Duffy earned the win on the mound logging 7 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits while striking out 11.  Offensively, George Zaruba had a big day with a double, a dead-center home run, and 3 runs scored.  Chris Rossi, Ty Morin, and Steve Caruso all had 2 hit games.  PO turned third basemen Taylor Donofrio had a 3 hit game (yes you read that right) including a double, but ruined his strong performance when he did his best Tim Krol impression and was picked off second base. Donofrio was also hosed at the plate trying to score on a sac fly.  For the Monarchs, Colby Dunlop had a two hit game.  The Hunters are back in action this Tuesday where they will take on the Canton Crushers in the second and final game of the Tri-State Dunkin’ Park series. 

Tri-Town Trojans 16  Valley Kraken 0

Miles Scribner tossed six innings of no-hit baseball to lead the Tri-Town Trojans to a 5-2 win over the Valley Kraken. He struck out seven, hit one batter and surrendered zero runs or walks. Cooper Johnson had three hits and two RBIs. Owen Hibbard and Willy Yahn each went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. AJ Romaniello had a hit and a run scored while Kevin Braathe had a hit and a stolen base. 

Bethlehem Plowboys 11  Naugatuck White Sox 0

Brice Waldron drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Plowboys past Naugatuck 11-0 on Sunday. Waldron doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and tripled in the fourth inning, scoring two. Bethlehem jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Ryan Ponte doubled, scoring one run, Jon Conlon drew a walk, scoring one run, Waldron doubled, scoring two runs, and Jarrett Michaels singled, scoring one run. Jelani Hamer went 1-2 with a single and a stolen base.  Bethlehem added one run in the third. Chase Belisle singled, making the score 6-0. Carsten Donovan earned the win for Bethlehem Plowboys. The pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

 

Bethlehem piled up 10 hits in the game. Nate Cormier led the team with three hits in three at bats. Ponte collected two hits in three at bats. Michaels paced Bethlehem Plowboys with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Cormier stole two bases. Bethlehem Plowboys were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Kyle Banche showed off his gold glove in the 5th as well, making 2 amazing plays at third. Dismel Reyes and Victor Rivera each collected one hit for Naugatuck. Bethlehem Plowboys play at home on Tuesday against Valley Kraken in their next game.
