July 26 Finals

Canton Crushers 3   Torrington Rebels 2

It was a soggy showdown at Bowdoin Field Thursday night, where more baseballs were towel-dried than runs scored. In a game that featured great pitching, clutch hitting, and enough foul balls to start a used ball fundraiser, Canton edged out the Torrington Thunder 3-2 with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh by Angel Christiano.

Torrington rallied late, tying the game in the seventh on a wild pitch after earlier evening things up with a Brady Doherty RBI single. But the wet turf wasn’t the only thing slippery—Canton managed to sneak across the winning run just before extra innings could make an appearance. Hats off to the basement coaches for chasing down rogue baseballs all evening. The Thunder now look ahead to Sunday’s game at Tri-Town—ideally with drier socks and fewer towels.

Valley Ducks 7   Winsted Whalers 3

The Ducks traveled to Winsted for their 5th game in as many days. Escaping the heat, the Ducks were in their element on a rainy Thursday. Mitch Gryniuk went 6 1/3 for the Whalers, striking out 10 in a gutsy performance. With the team short on pitching, Steve Harrison demanded the ball, and proclaimed “I’m going all 7” – that he did (7ip, 3h, 4k, 1 earned run). BALLSY PERFORMANCE

The Ducks got things going early when Donny Ek had an rbi single in the 1st. With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the 6th, the Ducks scored 4 times. 2 of the runs came on a deep double down the left field line by Steve Marinaro. Stevie also drove in another run with a base knock.

Wolcott Scrappers 6   Tri-Town Trojans 5 (8 innings)

It was another comeback win for the Wolcott Scrappers scoring 3 in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game then scoring in the 8th to beat Tri town 6-5. Soccer star Justin Cardinale perfectly placed bunt single plated his brother David after an errant throw to secure the walk off win. Nick Sconziano, Ben Bianchi and Aj Martinez all singled with one out in the 7th to start the rally. After the 2nd out, Alex James was once again clutch with a two run single to get the Scrap within one. Josh Dunne then walked to load the bases again bringing his brother Joe to the plate. After falling behind 0-2, he worked a walk to tie the game: great at bat. AJ Martinez had 3 hits for Wolcott and James added 2. Aiden Basaillion(7 hits, 3runs, 11Ks) Logan Szep and David Cardinale all pitched well for Wolcott with Cardinale not allowing a run in the 8th.

The ravens got the scoring started in the second when William Diaz singled and Joselito pagan executed a perfect hit and run . A defensive miscue allowed the first run to score and second scored on an rbi groundout by Christian millau. The sliders equaled the score in the second when a leadoff single by Luke Sokolski (2-4), followed by rbi doubles by Pat Raymond (1-3) and Ty Giambra (2-3) left the score at 2-2. Things remained quiet until the bottom of the fifth at which point the sliders had a 2 out 5 run rally led by a giambra single, and hits by Joe Dicrosta (2-3) and EJ Quint (2-3).  A few more runs tacked on in the sixth sealed the deal for the sliders . The sliders improve to 6-3 and will face Naugatuck Tuesday night

The Valley Kraken toppled the Amenia Monarchs 2-0 in a dominant complete game performance by Luke Fisher. Luke recorded 2 strikeouts with no runs scored, 4 hits, and only 76 pitches thrown! Luke’s immaculate pitching kept the Monarchs offense at bay while the Kraken offense was able to amount timely hits to score runs in the pitchers dual.
