June 24 Finals

Torrington Thunder 5  Naugatuck White Sox 4 (8 innings)

Torrington Thunder brought the drama Tuesday night, pulling off a 5-4 walk-off win against Naugatuck at Fuessenich Park. Kyle Green played hero with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth, sending hometown fans — and the winning run — home happy. It was a game of back-and-forth action, as both teams took turns tying, leading, and stealing bases like it was Black Friday at second. Naugatuck came out swinging early, plating three runs in the first, but Torrington clawed back thanks to clutch hits from JT Gostkowski and Bryce Adamski. Green tossed a gritty complete game for the Thunder, earning the win and possibly a nap. With six stolen bases and a well-timed sac fly, the Thunder did just enough to weather the Naugatuck storm — and now roll into Canton with momentum (and maybe a little swagger).

Valley Kraken 4  Valley Ducks 3

The Kraken outed the Ducks 4-3 on a scorcher Tuesday 6/24. The Ducks got on the board first with a 2 RBI single by Ty Pelletier. The Kraken with 12 hits on the day clawed back adding 1 run in the 2nd, 2 in 3rd, and 1 in the 4th. AJ Romaniello, Zach Mars, and Josh McMinn had the RBI’s to score for the Kraken. Ryan Bohrman, pitcher for the Kraken wouldn’t let up another run until the 7th inning to complete a solid pitching performance. Bohrman recorded 5 strike outs, in 7 innings pitched with only 3 runs allowed (2 earned), 7 hits, and 6 walks. Bohrman’s pitching performance and strong AB’s from the Kraken allowed them to squeak out the 4-3 win.

Burlington Hunters 13  Canton Crushers 2

The Burlington Hunters improve to 5-2 after defeating the Canton Crushers 13-2 on another scorching hot summer night.  Ty Morin earned the win on the mound tossing 5 innings, surrendering 2 unearned runs and scattering 5 hits.  For Canton, shortstop Alec Varano, (who smacked a loud double)and catcher Noah Asmer both had multi hit days.  However, the real story lies with Taylor Donofrio, who after working construction in the heat all day caught the first 5 innings, pitched the last 2, and also had a multi hit day at the plate.

The Hunter offensive got going early with a George Zaruba 2 Run Home run over the left field wall that landed in Simonds Ave.  Chad Lavelle would follow in the 2nd inning with a 3 run blast of his own.  Sean O’Donnell, Andrew Bunger, and Steve Caruso all contributed with multi-hit days.  Josue Sway Lopez did not contribute at all going 0-4 lining out on 4 hard hit balls and did not make any plays in the field after letting second baseman Tim Krol call him off of a fly ball in short right field.

Game Highlights: Andrew Bunger now trails George Zaruba in home runs, but is still tied with Sway, Taylor Donofrio showed why he is usually a PO after his base running display, and it was so hot during that game that Tim Krol Door-dashed extra waters to the field for the team.

Amenia Monarchs 14  CT Sliders 6

Monarch bats were hot on scorching hot night in Waterbury with 13 hits on the night. Amenia came away with a 14-6 win against the Sliders. Aidan Damon started on the bump for Amenia and would go 4 innings surrendering 3 earned runs and striking out 4. Six Monarchs’s would have multi hit days led by Gavyn Queen who went 2-4 with 3RBI and Richie Lamping who would 2-4 and have 4 runs scored. Colby Dunlop would pitch 3 innings to get the save for the Monarchs giving up 1 hit and striking out 5. Montini would have a double and McGuire had 2 hits to lead the Sliders. Amenia travels to New Milford Thursday to take on the Kraken.
