Wolcott Scrappers 14 Amenia Monarchs 5
The Wolcott scrappers improved to 5-1 with a 14-5 victory over the Amenia Monarchs at Doc Bartlett field. Nick Sconziano, 3 hits, 2runs, 2rbi and Dillon Fernandez 2 hits a run and 4 rbi paced 14 hit attack for the Scrap. Alex James,( booming double to right) Ben Bianchi(double) and Joe Sconziano had 2 hits each. Blake Stone, though a little on the wild side, continued his dominance on the bump to start the year going 5 innings allowing no earned runs with 7ks. Chris Osterman had a single and 2rbi and Gavyn Queen had 2 hits and 2 runs scored for the Monarchs.
Thursday June 5
Torrington Thunder 4 New Haven Ravens 3
The Torrington Thunder squeaked past New Haven 4-3 on Thursday at Fuessenich Park, thanks to a mix of patience at the plate and base-stealing chaos. Chase Brown earned the win with five solid innings, while the Ravens Jordan Carreira battled through a tough first inning where the strike zone seemed more elusive than usual. Torrington’s bats didn’t exactly explode, but their legs sure did, swiping five bases like it was a clearance sale. Joselito Pagan and friends tried to rally for New Haven, but Angel Santana shut the door and pocketed the save. Next up, Torrington hosts Naugatuck Tuesday 6/10 at 7p.
Tri-Town Trojans 11 Burlington Hunters 8 8-innings
Austin Patenaude had the go-ahead RBI single in the 8th inning as the Trojans beat the Hunters 11-8 on Thursday at Lewis Mills High School. Max Quinn provided the insurance runs with a two-RBI single. Owen Hibbard earned the win in two innings of relief, while Miles Scribner had no decision after six innings of work with seven strike outs. Danny McCarty and Casey McDonald each homered for the Trojans while Chad Lavelle launched one of his own for the Hunters. Bryon Carr had two knocks, an RBI and two runs scored while Coleby Bunnell had two hits of his own and a run scored. Justin McCullough tied the game with two outs in the bottom of the 7th with an RBI double. George Zaruba had two hits and three runs scored, Andrew Bunger also recorded two hits.
Bethlehem Plowboys 8 Canton Crushers 5
Crushers could not keep up with the Plowboys battling to the end in an 8-5 loss. Bethlehem Plowboys got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Greg Campbell singled down the left field line, Jesse Swartout hit a sacrifice fly, Dylan Chung doubled to center field, and Crushers committed an error, each scoring one run. A single by Swartout extended the Bethlehem Plowboys lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Crushers tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a single by Jimmy Spirito, a steal of home by Noah Asmar, and a single by Jake Bryant. Bethlehem Plowboys captured the lead, 8-5, in the bottom of the sixth after Chase Belisle singled to left field, Matt Palumbo singled down the left field line, and Crushers committed an error, each scoring one run.
Austin Brown earned the win for Bethlehem Plowboys. The hurler gave up five hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Alec Varano took the loss for Crushers. The reliever went two innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out none and walking none. Spirito led things off on the hill for Crushers. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one. Jay Johnson started on the hill for Bethlehem Plowboys. The starter allowed zero hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Kyle Banche earned the save. Spirito provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Crushers with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Bryant, Crushers’s number seven hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Asmar stole two bases. Crushers turned one double play in the game. Bethlehem Plowboys amassed 13 hits in the game. Palumbo, Nate Cormier, and Matt Mancini each collected two hits for Bethlehem Plowboys. Swartout went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
