Tri-State Wildcard round games Tuesday

The Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League playoffs begin Tuesday with a trio of single elimination wildcard games.

Each of the wildcard games is scheduled for seven innings. The No. 7 Winsted Whalers (11-11) host the No. 10 Canton Crushers (6-16) at 5:45 p.m. at Walker Field in Winsted. The No. 8 Valley Kraken (7-15) entertain the No. 9 Wolcott Scrappers (6-16) at 5:45 p.m. at Volunteers Field in New Milford.

The Torrington Thunder (2-20) took over as the No. 11 seed after the Naugatuck Scorpions (5-17) were forced to bow out of the postseason due to injuries. Torrington plays the No. 6 CT Sliders (12-10) at 7:30 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

The best-of-three first round series begin on Saturday and run through Monday, Aug. 5. All games after the wildcard round are scheduled for nine innings. The top five seeds, which all have byes through the wildcard round, are: No. 1 Bethlehem Plowboys (20-1); No. 2 Tri-Town Trojans (19-3); No. 3 Burlington Hunters (17-4); No. 4 Valley Ducks (13-9); and No. 5 Amenia Monarchs (13-9).
