Sunday July 14 Finals

Winsted Whalers 3  CT Sliders 2

On the mound for Winsted was Casey “Acey” Weingart and for the Sliders, Ryan Glover. Both pitchers would hold both offenses to only two runs into 7 innings. Weingart would have another excellent start and go 7 IP, 6 Hits, 3K, 2 Walks, and 2 ER. As for the Whale offense, Johnny Lippincott and Mitchell Gryniuk would score 1 run, while Steele Brobston and Andrew Billig would give another. Glover would go 7.1 IP, 9 Hits, 4K, 3 Walks, and 2 ER. Their offense was led by Ian Glover, Josh Dobratz, and Patrick Smith who would score 2 in the 3rd inning with a single, double, double. Great games by both pitchers. The game would go into extras where Mitchell Gryniuk, on the mound, would clear the side and the Whale would try at the plate. Runner on second, Steele Brobston would smoke a single up the middle and make it a first and third situation. Andrew Billig would pop the ball up to first, TJ would fake home forcing an overthrow and scoring off the mishap. Final score: 3-2 Whale win.

CT Sliders 11  Valley Kraken 8

Wow. What a way to describe the sliders 11-8 win over the valley kraken. The game originally started in late June was finished at a completely different field in July after a game with multiple rain delays and eventually a suspended game led the two teams to be tied 8-8 after 9 complete innings. The sliders jumped out in the original contest 3-0 before the kraken scored 6 unanswered runs starting with multiple base hits,  a walk by coach Billy romaniello , capped off by a double by mcminn to make the lead 6-3. The sliders eventually tied it 6-6 with rallies making it 6-4 with singles from Josh Dobratz , Pat smith , and Pat Raymond and then tying it with another rally started by Dobratz (6-6) followed by doubles from Pat smith and ray Campbell  to tie it. The kraken pulled ahead 8-6 in the ninth after romaniello reached base again and mcminn doubled him in. The sliders down to their last out called on Dobratz to single followed by a game tying two run home run by Pat smith to tie it 8-8. The rain came pouring down after Ryan glover held the kraken in the bottom of the ninth and the game was to be resumed… in wolcott. Old faithful Dobratz led off the extra innings resumption with a 2 run home run over the wolcott hs monster and the sliders held the kraken in the bottom half to secure the win 11-8

Valley Kraken 7   Valley Ducks 5

The battle of the two Valleys was a spectacle to witness. The Kraken were the first to cross home after Miles Pokrinchak and Ernie Farrell knocked in one run each. The Ducks tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a single by Frank Frosceno. The Kraken responded quickly by loading the bases for Ernie Farrell to get his first hit of the season, a grand slam. Chris Oliwa’s two run homerun in the 6th inning helped bring the Ducks within two runs, but the Kraken held the lead thanks to the run-less 7th by Aiden Hefele. On the bump, Granata got the win and Hefele earned the save.

Burlington Hunters 8  Amenia Monarchs 7

The Burlington Hunters defeat the Amenia Monarchs 8-7 in a wild back and forth game.  It was a tight pitchers duel through the first five innings between Ty Morin for the Hunters and Zach Spencer for the Monarchs.  The Monarchs led 1-0 until Tommaso Tollis hit an opposite field home run to tie the game in the top of the 5th.  In the bottom of the 6th the Monarchs would get to Morin for 2 runs thanks to a savvy safety squeeze play though Tim Krol would disagree. Tollis would respond with a huge 3-run home run in the top of the 7th to give the Hunters a one run lead.  In the bottom of the 7th Ty Morin and Tim Krol would do their best to blow the game by allowing 4 runs to score making it 7-4.  However in the top of the 8th, with some help from the wind, George Zaruba would hit a 2 run home run (finally the poor guy got one) to bring the score within one.
In the bottom of the 8th the Monarchs had to do a double-take when they saw Nestor Cortes of the Yankees warming up on the mound, turns out it was just Andrew Bunger who’s incredible balance and mind games made his 50mph ball look like it was 65mph.  In the top of the 9th the Hunters would tie the game thanks to a Jheremi Rosado single and Andrew Bunger then drove in the go ahead run with a single of his own.  Bunger retired the side in the bottom of the 9th to seal the come from behind victory.
Game Highlights include: Sway was happy to finally get to play first base however, he was visibly upset to learn Tollis is now the home run leader on the club; Ty Morin must have played at Becker College with the way he runs the bases; and finally the team learned that Zack Martin is the last person who should be coaching 3rd base.
The Hunters move on to take part in the Dunkin Park Series this upcoming week: Tuesday Vs. The Valley Ducks and Thursday vs. The Canton Crushers

Wolcott Scrappers 7  Canton Crushers 5
