Tri-Town Trojans 3 Valley Ducks 2
Dan Livingston went the distance on the mound and was able to get the tight game victory against the Ducks, edging out Ducks starter Jakobi Bouchard. Ducks went up early with a two RBI single by Nick Forino. Trojans were able to tie the game with 2 RBi double by Brad Ellis scoring Danny McCarty and Casey McDonald. Trojans were able to take the lead in the 7th by an RBI walk from Bryon Carr. Livingston would shut the door in the 7th to secure the one run win. Owen Hibbard had 3 hits on the day for the Trojans (2 2B, single). Game was a great pitching battle between both starters.
Tuesday July 2
Burlington Hunters 8 Amenia Monarchs 3
The Burlington Hunters keep the Hawk Tuah magic going and increase their winning streak to 6 games by defeating the Amenia Monarchs 8-3. Ty Morin would grab the win on the mound throwing 5 innings, scattering 3 hits allowing just one run and striking out 3. Taylor Donofrio would pick up the 6 out save in relief. It was a close 2-1 game through the first four and half innings until the Hunter bats came alive with a 6 run 5th inning. The Hunters were led offensively by Chad Lavelle who had another multi hit game along with Andrew Bunger and Jeff Osak who both also had multi hit days and drove in 2 runs a piece. George Zaruba had a loud double that drove in a run that hit off the top of the fence, George may never hit another home run again. Tommaso Tollis and Tim Krol were pretty useless at the plate. Chad Lavelle also shined on defense making another amazing diving play to help keep the Hunter lead.
Game Highlights include; Chris Rossi has been spending too much time with Sway and struggled to remember the amount of outs several times; Jon Eno needed 2 at bats/12 pitches to get the perfect read on the Amenia starter in order to steal second base; Josh Sway Lopez for once made good base running decision and stole second!; Taylor Donofrio needs a new elbow; and finally Team Officials were disappointed to find out Sean O’Donnell did not change his flight back from Texas in time to make the game
Winsted Whalers 14 Torrington Thunder 1
What happens when your starting pitcher doesn’t show? The Whale’s solution is Peter Greenwood. Given a solid 5 minutes to warm up and throw, he would start on the mound for the Whale. Being a devout relief pitcher for the Whale in the 2024 season, starting was a first of the year for Greenwood; he would not disappoint. Getting to the 6th inning, he had only allowed 1 run in with a couple of hits. Most of the Torrington hits came from Melvin Alvarez(2-3, Double, Single) and Robert Anton(2-3, 2 Singles) who frankly did have Greenwood’s number for the night but it wasn’t enough. The Whale offense would, throughout the game, stack runs on. I would be able to say everyone in the lineup got a hit but Mark Cummings and Owen McMahon prevented me from saying that; well done boys. Notable hits were from Lukas Gryniuk(2-4, HR, Single), who put a ball 405 ft to right field, decided to jog to first, then had to sprint all the way home for an inside the parker; Walker field shenanigans. Johnny Lippincott(2-3, 2 Singles, Walk) decided to embrace his leadoff role and just hit singles. Mitchell Gryniuk, after 14 straight groundouts, finally got a ball in the air and Austin Brochu hit a tank of a shot to only miss second base by a stride and a half and get called out. Bottom 6th, score being 14-1, Greenwood had two options; get an AB and get pulled off the mound or stay in the game to get the complete game. Going with his competitive nature, Greenwood would stay on the mound. Bryce Adamski would walk as leadoff, Peter’s first walk of the whole game. Stealing second and third, Bryce Adamski would reach third no problem. Gambling with the game on the line and two outs, Adamski, trying to tie the game, would attempt to steal home. In a never-before-seen move, Adamski took off toward home. Greenwood executed a perfect step off and throw and after an extremely close play 5’ before the plate, the runner was tagged out. Nail biter over. Final Score: 14-1 Whale win
