Wednesday July 23
Torrington Thunder 8 Naugatuck White Sox 5
The Torrington Thunder brought the noise (and the bats) in an 8-5 win over Naugatuck on Wednesday at Fuessenich Park. After briefly letting Naugatuck take the lead behind Matt Venable’s two-run single in the third, the Thunder roared back with a Gabe Duncan RBI and a three-run blast from Kyle Green to shift momentum. Naugatuck wasn’t done yet—they tied things up in the fourth with some opportunistic baserunning and a timely single from Victor Rivera—but Torrington responded immediately, pulling ahead for good on a two-run single by Robert Anton and an RBI from Kyle Gordon.
Brady Doherty took the hill for Torrington and pitched seven solid innings, while Naugatuck’s Mauro racked up nine strikeouts over six innings of gritty work. Offensively, Naugatuck showed sparks with Aiden going 2-for-3 and Venable leading the team with two RBIs, keeping the pressure on throughout. Ultimately, Torrington’s aggressive baserunning and timely hitting proved the difference. The Thunder now turn their eyes to a Saturday matchup with the Duckston Thunder 8 Naugatuck White Sox 5
