Sunday July 13 Finals

Burlington Hunters 13   Amenia Monarchs 5

The Burlington Hunters reach double digit wins with their 13-5 victory over the Amenia Monarchs. The veterans led the way for the Hunters as all players over the age of 30 had impactful days.  Dave Alarcon after only throwing 2 innings all year logged 7 and two thirds innings to earn the win.  Andrew Bunger would close the game on the mound and also had 4 hits,  drove in 3 runs, and somehow stole two bags.  George Zaruba had a 3 hit day including a pimp-job double, slightly embarrassing.  Josue Sway Lopez made Amy proud by hitting an RBI double as well as finally hitting a home run that just left the yard thanks to a gust of wind. Sean O’Donnell and Tim Krol would also contribute with multi-hit days.  The Monarchs notched 12 hits on the day.   Matt Damon had a 3 hit game including a double, Keaton Terrell had a 2 hit game including a double, and Zack Carroll delivered a late 2 rbi single.  Game Highlights: Dave Alarcon set a record for most first pitch balls; Sway’s homer was actually probably 450ft and since it was his first he was able to get it from a fan and put it on his mantel next to his picture of George.

Wolcott Scrappers 9   Naugatuck White Sox 4

The Wolcott Scrappers used 2 big innings, including a 5 run 8th inning, to down the Naugatuck White Sox 9-4. With the game tied 4-4 going into the 8th the scrap used an intentional walk and 2 hbp’s to load the bases. Nick Sconziano followed with a tie-breaking rbi single to drive in the go ahead run. After a wild pitch scored a run, Drew Rocca then hit a 2 run single to extend the lead. Carson Lentini and Ryan Ciampi had 2 hits and a run scored each for the Scrappers and Devin Fuegen had 2 run single and walked 3 times, adding a run scored. Starting pitcher Ben Bianchi threw 5 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit with 4ks. David Cardinale quelled the Naugy rally in the 6th, then pitched 2 more innings to earn the win.   For Naugy, Matt Vanable pitched great in defeat, throwing 5 shut out innings before running into trouble in the 6th.  Louis Rodriguez had 2 hits(2b, 1b) and an rbi to lead the offense.

Tri-Town Trojans 9   Winsted Whalers 2

Connor Gannon went the distance in Tri-Town’s 9-2 win over the Winsted Whalers. He struck out four while allowing two earned runs and one walk. Cooper Johnson had a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Coleby Bunnell logged a hit and two walks while scoring twice. Lukas Gryniuk had two doubles.

Bethlehem Plowboys 12  Valley Ducks 0

Jesse Swartout drove in six runs on three hits to lead the Bethlehem Plowboys past The Valley Ducks 12-0 on Sunday at Wolcott High School. Swartout hit a home run to left field in the first scoring three, singled in the seventh scoring two, and singled in the sixth scoring one. Austin Brown started things off strong for Bethlehem as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Bethlehem pitchers walked one on the way to victory. The Plow bats got on the board in the first inning after Swartout homered to left field, scoring three runs. A triple by Jelani Hamer extended the Bethlehem Plowboys lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Brown earned the win for the Plowboys. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Kyle Banche pitched four innings in relief for Bethlehem Plowboys. The right-handed pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs while, striking out six and walking none. Kyle Daddona took the loss for The Valley Ducks. The pitcher went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two. The Plowboys amassed 15 hits in the game. Swartout and Hamer were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Bethlehem Plowboys while hitting back-to-back. Carsten Donovan, Jon Wilson, and Nate Cormier each collected multiple hits for Bethlehem Plowboys. Tyler Boisvert and Sam Williams picked up baseball bats and decided to show that pitchers are hitters too, both with booming extra base hits at the bottom of the order, Boisvert with a double and Williams with a triple. Donovan stole three bases. Bethlehem stole five bases in the game total as a team.  Tino Ciarlo went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead The Valley Ducks in hits. While Kyle Daddona was able to reach base once as well as Alex Mentone.  Bethlehem will travel to the Winsted Whalers for their next game on Thursday.

Canton Crushers 2  Torrington Thunder 0

In a classic pitchers’ duel that felt more like a polite chess match with baseballs, Canton just edged out Torrington Thunder 2-0 on Sunday. Jimmy Spirito did his best ninja impression on the mound, quietly shutting down Torrington’s bats with three hits allowed, zero runs, and 10 strikeouts over a full nine innings—talk about endurance. Meanwhile, Ryan Green for Torrington threw a solid seven, but couldn’t quite keep Canton’s bats at bay after a second-inning sacrifice fly put the visitors on the board. Offensively, Canton’s Alec Varano was the spark plug, going 3-for-4, while Spirito and Ben Sullivan each chipped in with an RBI to seal the deal. Torrington’s Gabe Duncan tried to rally with two hits, but the Thunder just couldn’t crack Canton’s clean defense—no errors, a slick double play, and Daniel Petro logging a busy 11 chances in the field. Torrington will have a chance to bounce back Thursday when they host the Kraken, hopefully bringing a bit more thunder next time!
