Tuesday July 8

Wolcott Scrappers/ New Haven Ravens

Led by Joe Sconziano’s 4-4 2rbi day the Wolcott Scrappers defeated New Haven 8-5 after another late inning comeback. The scrap scored 6 runs in the top of the 7th to overcome a 3-2 deficit.
Joe Dunne led off the 7th with a single, Jon Diogostine reached on an error and Nick Sconziano walked to load bases. With one out, a ground ball with a throwing error plated one run, then a rocket to 2nd base by Dillon Fernandez eluded the fielder and 2 more runs scored. Alex James then singled to plate a run. After a walk to Drew Rocca and wild pitch, Joe Sconziano plated 2 with a single. James continued his hot hitting for the Scrap with 2 hits, including a double and 2 runs scored. Josh Dunne picked up the win in relief despite walking everyone and Fernandez picked up his 4th save by cleaning up the mess in the 7th

Winsted Whalers 14   Naugatuck White Sox 5

The Whale finally placed themselves in the win column after a long, non-disclosable amount of time. Beating the Naugatuck White Sox 14-5, the Whaler’s offense was led by Jay Torres 4-5 (3 Singles, 1 Double), Johnny Lippincott 2-2 (Double, Triple, Sac Fly, Walk) and Steele Brobston 3-4 (2 singles, 1 HR). Naugatuck’s own, Julio Pastrana, produced going 4-4 (3 Singles, 1 Double). Casey Weingart came in and finished the final 4.2 innings allowing 1 earned run, 3 hits, 5 K’s, and no walks. No walks are very suspicious, not typical Whale pitcher behavior.

Bethlehem Plowboys 8  Valley Kraken 2

Dylan Chung collected three hits in three at bats, as the Bethlehem Plowboys defeated the Valley Kraken 8-2 on Tuesday at New Milford High School. Chung singled in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the fifth inning. Bethlehem got on the board in the top of the first inning after Chung singled, and Valley committed an error, each scoring one run. Bethlehem added one run in the second after Ryan Ponte singled. The Plow added one run in the third on a Isaiah Johnson line out, making the score 4-0. Ty Boisvert earned the win. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Carsten Donovan appeared in relief allowing 1 run in the 6th before closing the door.

The Plow piled up 14 hits in the game. Chung and Johnson were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits. Johnson drove the middle of the lineup, leading Bethlehem Plowboys with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 3-for-4 on the day. Donovan and Ponte each collected multiple hits for Bethlehem Plowboys. AJ Romaniello and Braydon Stellato were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Kraken. Stellato went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Miles Pokrinchak collected two hits for Valley in three at bats.

Next up for Bethlehem Plowboys is a game at Amenia Monarchs on Thursday.

Valley Ducks 3  Canton Crushers 1

Jacobi Bouchard toed the slab for Ducks and absolutely dealt. 5ip, 2h, 1r (0 er, 0bb), 6k. Jared Gallagher entered the game in the 6th and only needed 14 pitches to collect a 6 out save (2ip, 0h, 0bb) as the Ducks improved to 8-5 on the season. Angel Christiano pitched well for Canton- allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits.

It was a different offensive approach, as the Ducks relied on the ole small ball approach to manufacture some runs. Shane Fusco and Ty Pelletier both laid down some really cool sac bunts to help create the runs that would be the difference (both had hits too, but the sacrifice bunts are so much cooler). Kyle Daddona did what he has been doing all season and striped a go ahead base knock into center field in the 6th. Ryan Shiel also drove in a run when he grounded out to second base (production: Pitching, defense, and sac bunts were the recipe tonight.)

The Ducks look to make it 5 in a row Thursday as they take on the the Wolcott Scrappers in The Tri State Subway Series.

CT Sliders 5   Torrington Thunder 0

The Sliders brought the heat early and didn’t let up, topping the Torrington Thunder 5-0 Tuesday night at Fuessenich Park. A two-run double play (yes, you read that right) and a Josh Dobratz homer gave the Sliders a quick cushion they never gave back. Ryan Glover was nearly untouchable on the mound, fanning 12 Thunder batters over five-plus innings. Despite the loss, Torrington’s defense held strong with no errors and two double plays—but the bats stayed mostly silent. The Thunder will look to bounce back Friday when they face the Kraken. The Sliders get right back at it traveling to Naugatuck on Wednesday to face the White Sox.
