Thursday July 25 Finals
Burlington Hunters 4 Naugatuck Scorpions 1
The Burlington Hunters led by a strong pitching performance from Taylor Donofrio defeated the Naugatuck Scorpions 4-1. The Jerk would toss 6 innings of one run ball, in vintage Donofrio fashion the jerk hit more batters (3) than hits allowed (2). The Hunter offense was led by Tim Krol who had a multi-hit game and drove in a run to tie the game at the time. Zack Martin was also useful for the first time in weeks and delivered a big go-ahead RBI single in the 4th. Dave Kerlezja would pitch the final frame to secure the win and earn the save.
Game highlights include: Sean O’Donnell has dropped out of Mitch College and now attends the Becker College school of base running after getting picked off second base. Feuding with Josue Sway Lopez over who is George Zaruba’s true best friend, Andrew Bunger intentionally got caught stealing second to rob Sway of an at bat in the 7th inning, definitely had nothing to do with how Bunger runs like a wounded three-legged elephant; Donofrio after his great pitching performance was seen practicing his dance moves for his role in the upcoming musical at the Warner Theatre while tracking a long fly ball in left field left; and finally Zack Martin surprised his teammates when he made every play at third base without committing one error.
Valley Ducks 5 Amena Monarchs 3
The Ducks defeated Amenia 5-3 Thursday night. Chris Oliwa carried the Ducks, throwing a complete game with 6 k’s. He also hit a loud home run in the first inning with a glorious bat flip. Other notable performances for the Ducks include Nick Forino collecting 2 hits and Steve Harrison also collecting 2 more hits. Rob Lampin hit a home run for Amenia. Both teams close out the regular season Saturday as they battle for the 4 seed. The Ducks take on Naugatuck and Amenia takes on Tri Town.
