Thursday July 18 Finals

Valley Ducks 5   Wolcott Scrappers 2

The Valley Ducks hopped off the losing train and beat the Wolcott Scrappers 5-2 Thursday night. Steve Harrison got his first career start on the mound for the Ducks and he went 3 IP, allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, while striking out 2. Ty Pelletier inherited a bases loaded no out jamb in the 4th- he struck the first two batters out, walked one, and collected another strikeout. He went 4 IP, allowing 0 hits while striking out 7. Alex Mentone collected 3 knocks including a double for the quack. Nick Forino and Tino Ciarlo each collected 2 hits each. Alex James had one of the 3 hits for Wolcott.

Amenia Monarchs 6   Winsted Whalers 3

Monarchs get to double digit wins against Winsted. Aiden Damon would get the start for the Monarchs and go 6 innings against a tough Winsted lineup. Aiden would throw one bad pitch all game when Jay Torres hit a 3 run home run to get the Whalers on the board 3-0. In the 4th inning Richie Lamping would score on an Alex Marino single. Marino would score on double by high school girls basketball coach Chris Osterman. He would score on rbi ground ball by Nick Reilly. Amenia scores another 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Sam Foley would hit into a base loaded fielders choice and Monarchs would score 2 more that inning on a throwing error by the catcher and a pass ball to make the score 6-3. It would stay that way the rest of the game as Alex Marino gets the save on 8 pitches. Jay Torres would have a single to go along with his home run (2-3 3rbi) Colby Dunlop and Richie Lamping would add hits for Monarchs and Nick Reilly would go 2-3.

Bethlehem Plowboys 10   Valley Kraken 0

The Plowboys took the 10-0 shutout W over the Kraken Thursday night. Austin Brown was a man on a mission, taking a perfect game into the 5th before allowing a 2 out walk and then took a no hit bid into the 7th but allowed a single with one out. Brown was virtually untouchable with a total line of 6.1 innings, 2 walks and 8ks. The Plowboy bats were led Ty Harkness going a smooth 2-3 with 3 RBI, Ryan Ponte smacked a solo homer, Brett Davino and captain Greg Campbell added a few RBI as well to pace the plow attack. Tyler Boisvert and his luscious hair got the save for Bethlehem pitching the final two batters striking both out.

CT Sliders 4   Naugatuck Scorpions 3

On a beautiful night for baseball the sliders and scorpions had another 1 run classic. Ian Glover started on the mound for the sliders carrying a no-hitter into the 6th inning. The sliders offense got things started in the bottom of the first when Josh Dobratz (1-3; 2B, BB) and Pat Raymond (2-4; 2B) went back to back doubles to score 1 followed by a base hit from Ty Fernandes who then stole second allowing Raymond to score from third. The sliders would tack on another run in the 4th when Tyler Giambra got a base hit, stole second, advance to third on a wild pitch and scored on another ball to the backstop. This brings us to the 7th when all hell broke loose. A couple hard hit balls by the scorpions were not able to be corralled followed by the dirt monster attacking the sliders SS on a pop up and a double from the scorpions coach Victor Rivera tied the game 3-3. Glover did what he has done all year for the sliders and bared down with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs, he struck out the next batter, got a ground ball to 2nd who was able to throw the man out at home and a pop up to the SS sent the game to the bottom of the 7th. Dobratz led off with a walk followed by the bunt of a lifetime by Raymond and the blazing speed forced a throwaway. Campbell was intentionally walked and with the bases loaded, and the infield in, Ty Fernandes delivered a huge pop up behind short that fell and allowed Dobratz to score. The intensity on both sides led this to be an absolute classic with a split season series where both teams won 4-3 both look forward to the playoffs. The sliders face the current 3 seed Hunters on Sunday at municipal stadium with the sliders fighting for a top 5 seeding

Burlington Hunters 8   Canton Crushers 2

In game 2 of the Dunkin Park series, The Burlington Hunters defeated the Canton Crushers 8-2.  The Hunter offense stayed hot despite a drop in Andrew Bunger’s clutch rating after leaving a small village in scoring position all night.  Tommaso Tollis led the charge with 2 hits, a stolen base, and 3 runs driven in. Josue Lopez also had a big day at the plate with 2 hits, one which went for a ground rule double that Sway tried to trick everyone in the stadium into thinking it was a home run.  On the mound Ty Morin led the way with another strong outing limiting the Crushers to 2 runs, on 7 hits, while striking out 4 in 5 and a third innings.  Andrew Bunger and Tyler Doyle (yes he’s still on the team and not just a DJ) finished the game in relief.
Game Highlights include: Sway continues to struggle on the bases and sprinted for third base on a line drive only to get doubled up.  Apparently at Becker College “freeze on a line drive” is not a thing; Jon Eno wowed his teammates with a great at-bat leading to a walk, but still after 18 games does not know the steal sign; and finally Matt Dablain came out of retirement to take an at-bat against former Hunter Jimmy Spirito and both set a league record for oldest combined age in an at-bat between pitcher and hitter.
