Burlington Hunters 10 CT Sliders 5
The Burlington Hunters defeated the CT Sliders 10-5 thanks to a strong effort on the mound by Dave “Building Blocks” Alarcon. Despite blowing the perfect game bid by hitting a batter to lead off the second inning, Alarcon would throw 5 innings, scattering 4 hits, while striking out 5. The game was tied 1-1 through the first 3 innings. However, in the bottom of the 4th The Hunters would explode for 7 runs which proved to be all that was needed to secure the win. Taylor Donofrio would close out the game for the Hunters and earn the rare 12-out save. Multiple Hunters had multi-hit games to help lead the offensive attack; George Zaruba, Tommaso Tollis, Chad Lavelle, Zack Martin, Taylor Donofrio (yea.. we can’t believe it either), Chris Rossi, and Andrew Bunger. For the Sliders, Josh Dobratz had a big day at the plate notching 2 hard hits, one that went for a double. Jaylen Kelly also had a multi hit day including a loud double.
Game highlights include: Ty Morin and Josh Jose Sway Lopez did their best to make the Tri-State bloopers reel when they collided trying to catch a fly ball, for someone who never shuts up, Sway was silent at the wrong time; Play of the day goes to third base coach Jay Pelletier (yes he is still playing) when he snagged a foul ground ball while crashing into the fence; and finally after receiving no help from local authorities Team Officials now turn to the CIA and FBI to help in the missing-persons cases of Ryan Lavelle and Tyler Doyle.
Winsted Whalers 9 Naugatuck Scorpions
The Whale would start off the first couple of innings by scoring 4 runs with singles and a clutch double by Johhny Lippincott. The 5th inning would also be productive as the top of the Whale lineup would get the bases loaded with no outs. A couple batters later, and they would be able to score 3 runs. Naugatuck would bring in their relief pitcher, who threw some cheddar, and would shut down the Whale offence for the rest of the night. As per the Naugatuck offense, Casey Weingart would hold them as long as possible. Going all the way to the bottom 6th, Naugatuck would finally score their first three runs. Death by singles would take Weingart out of the game, and eventually bring Naugatuck’s score up to 6, only trailing by three to the Whale’s 9. Bases loaded and no outs, Peter Greenwood would be thrown into the fire, for relief pitching. Having been a veteran of these types of situations from the 2023 season, he would only let one run in and complete the game, giving the Whale a 9-7 win over the Scorpions.
