Winsted Whalers 10 Canton Crushers 0
Winsted v Canton is always a great game to play. Both teams have great guys, great sportsmanship, and plenty of jokes. Canton would start their workhorse, James Spirito, on the mound while the Whale would start Mike Oley, who was coming off the IL. Mike would throw a first pitch strike with that being his first pitch in TriState. Allowing only 2 singles and no ER, he would have a great first inning of his career. Whaler bats had some magic tonight putting together 10 runs. Jay Torres, who plays with Canton in the fall league, would put up 2 HR, 2B and 7RBI going 3-4. Tough love. It wasn’t just Jay, as Johnny Lippincott (3-3, 3x1B, BB), Lukas Gryniuk (3-3, 3x1B, BB), and TJ Kent (3-4, 3x1B) would play some small ball and get on base. Casey Weingart would come in the second for the Whale and do his thing. Going 4 innings with only 1 hit, he would have another great performance. Being up with a comfortable lead, Lukas Gryniuk would make his closing debut and throw 1 inning with 2K; he needed a week rest after that. Final score: Whale 10 – Canton 0.
