Bethlehem Plowboys 5 Winsted Whalers 2
The Plowboys win the first round series of the playoffs, beating the Winsted Whalers by a score of 5-2 Tyler Boisvert took the ball for Bethlehem going 6.2 innings pitched, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 7. Bethlehem got the bats going early when yesterdays hero Isaiah Johnson roped an RBI double into left. The Whale countered in the bottom of the third with a sac fly by Jay Torres. Bethlehem opened up the game in the top half of the 5th scoring 3 runs on thanks to Matt Mancini reaching on a dropped fly ball by rhe left fielder and then Ricky Descoteaux roping a 2 RBI double into left center. Johnny Lippincott stayed hot at the dish roping a triple in the 6th inning and came around to score off Mike Cummings RBI single. The at bat of the game came with in the bottom of the 7th, Bethlehem went to the bullpen with 2 on and 2 out and the always dangerous Lippincott coming to the dish. Blaise Russo came on and struck out Lipp after battling on a 6 pitch at bat to get Bethlehem out of the jam. Russo would go on to pitch the final 2.1 innings, striking out 5/7 batters faced to close the door on the Whale. The Plow now looks forward to the Burlington / Amenia series where they face the winner Friday night at 7pm at Fussenich park in Torrington where they will also be inducting 4 players into the Tri State HOF!
Tri-Town Trojans 9 CT Gamecocks 2
Bobby Chatfield got the win on the mound for the Trojans, going 7 strong innings. Aidan Donohue came in relief and shut the door on the Gamecocks. Evan Scribner went 3-4 with 3 RBIs at the plate and Joey Grantmeyer added a double and a triple for the Trojans. Gamecocks were led by Angel Torres with a 2B and RBI. TriTown will play the valley ducks beginning Friday evening in a best of three series.
Valley Ducks 15 Brass City Vipers 9
The Valley Ducks beat the Brass City Vipers Saturday to advance to the Tri State semi finals for the first time in team history. Chris Oliwa tossed 7 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 9. Chris had an another big day at the plate, going 3-6(2 2b, 3b- 5 RBI). Ty Pelletier went 5-6. Zach Royka had a nice day at the plate going 3-4(3 RBI). Ryan Shiel was once a gain a great contributor with terrific energy and defense, he also had 2 hits.
Burlington Hunters 8 Amenia Monarchs 4
The Burlington Hunters defeated the Amenia Monarchs 8-4 in the first game of a three game series. The Monarchs took an early 1-0 lead. Z. Spencer started on the mound for the Monarchs and did a great job shutting down the Hunter offense through the first 5 innings. However, in the top of the 6th inning the Hunter’s bats would get going. Ryan Lavelle would leadoff with a double. Andrew Bunger would follow with a RBI single to tie the game. The Hunters would then go on to get 5 more hits in the inning to take a 6-1 lead. Dave Alarcon started on the mound for the Hunters and threw 6 strong innings scattering 3 hits and allowing 2 runs. In the top of the 7th George Zaruba would hit a loud opposite field 2 run homer to add to the Hunters lead. The Monarchs would tack on a few runs in the 8th to make it a 4 run game. With two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, Ty Morin would enter the game in relief and record 3 outs to earn the save.
