Sunday July 10
Blasius Chevrolet 10 Torrington Twisters 2
On a perfect morning for baseball the Hotch was packed and rocking. Partially due to a Sunday league soccer game that would temporarily pause both teams except for Blasius starter Dave Alarcon who remained locked in even with the chance to see a brawl breakout. Which included a full-on drop kick from multiple player accounts. In the action that truly mattered Torrington would get the action going in the early morning start as the Reynolds boys would get to Alarcon with a double and a sac fly to take an early 1-0 lead. However, just like Thursday night against Wolcott Blasius would come right back and the first three batters in the order would all reach and come around to score. This time helped by some wildness from the Torrington starter, a RBI single from Paul Novakowski and a sac fly from Fraz Kader to give the home team a 3-1 lead. The game would remain that way until the top of the fifth when Torrington lead-off hitter Steve Martinez would single, driving in Bloom who had led off the inning with a walk. Blasius would once again be back on the road to take the lead this time with a dink of a home run to right center by Jon Conlon, and another sac fly from Kader driving in Colby Linnell who had managed to get on base without out being hit by a baseball for the first time in the game. This would be all the runs Blasius would need as Alarcon and Rob Taylor would cruise through the final four frames holding Torrington in check. The Blasius bats would tack on 4 more insurance runs finishing off the comfortable 10-2 win. The Chev boys will be on a high note entering a game Thursday 5:45pm at the Hotch against the first place Tri-Town Trojans. Plenty of seats are still available. No word however on if there is a men’s league soccer game slash brawl.
Bethlehem Plowboys 12 Southington Gamecocks 2
The Plow bounced back after two tough losses during the week with a 12-2 win over Southington. Greg “The Captain” Campbell lead the way going 3/3 with 2 HR going a combined 3 miles, 5 RBI, and 2 walks. Joe Fainer also sent a homerun to the Bethlehem Fire Department and Isaiah Johnson added a solo shot in the 7th. Joe Rupe added 3 base hits and 2 runs. Jay Johnson started, going 3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 run. Sam Williams made his return to the mound, allowing 2 hits and a run over 4 innings. Crocker added a hit and a run for Southington. The Plowboys return to action under the lights at Fuessenich against Torrington on Thursday.
Burlington Hunters 6 Canton Crushers 5
The Burlington Hunters win their second in a row 6-5 thanks to a comeback win over the Canton Crushers. Taylor Donofrio got the start on the mound for the Hunters. After a shaky first inning, surrendering 4 runs, Donofrio would settle down to throw a complete game scattering 6 hits, giving up 3 earned runs total, and striking out 14. The Hunters would slowly claw their way back from an early three run deficit thanks to strong performances from Ty Morin (4/5, 2 2B, 3R) and Zack Martin (2/5, 2RBI). In the top of the 9th the Hunters trailed the Crushers by one. Ty Morin would lead off with a double and reach third on a passed ball. Andrew Bunger drove him in with an RBI single to tie the game. Justin Campbell would follow and rip a go ahead RBI triple.
Cam Gaudet started on the mound for the Crushers and throw a strong 5 innings. The Crushers were led offensively by Matt Rose who drove in 2 runs for the Crushers with 2 loud doubles.
Game highlights include: Hunters legend Matt Dablain made an appearance on the bench despite his wife’s efforts to keep him home, Injured Hunter Ryan Raponey coached third base on one leg, 20 year vet Jason Pelletier made a highlight reel play at third to help close out the game and had to be carried off the field, Zack Martin still can’t score from first no matter how far a ball is hit, and Tyler Doyle brought his “A” game by showing up in the correct uniform.
Tri-Town Trojans 12 Wolcott Scrappers 0
Amenia Monarchs 8 Winsted Whalers 2
On Sunday July 10th the Monarchs would improve to 9-5 with an 8-2 win over the Winsted Whalers. Monarchs would lose the first game against the Whalers back in June 4-3 in 12 innings on a walk off single. Sunday Amenia would even up the series behind a strong outing from Jacob Shpur. Shpur would go 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits with 5K’s. Will Perotti would lead the Monarchs offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s on the day. Andrew Thrasher added 2 hits to the attack. For Winsted Austin Brochu, last games hero, had 3 hits and an RBI for the Whale. After the game both teams celebrated a nice afternoon of baseball with food and beverages provided by our loyal fans! Special thanks to Warren and Jackie Gordon, and Walt and Laurie Bates for all of the amazing things they do for the team!
