Winsted Whalers 4 Torrington Twisters 3
In a rainy and darkness-shortened game at Walker Field, the Whale hosted the Torrington Twisters in hopes of snapping their 2-game skid. Whaler tradition set in as they fell behind in the 1st due to a triple by Kyle Matthews followed by an RBI single by DJ Reynolds. Winsted would strike back in the bottom of the 2nd with back-to-back doubles from Tony Pucino and Owen McMahon. Owen would finish the day 2-2 with a double, single, and walk. The Twisters would fire back in the 3rd with 2 runs off of an inside the park homerun by Bryon Carr. Like the Whale have done in several games this season, they pulled off a late rally to get the victory. Rick Langer led the charge with an RBI double and would end the day a perfect 3-3 with 2 singles and 1 double. The Whalers would even the score in the 4th before Chester Warner called game with a walk-off double, now adding a two-bagger to his repertoire of hits this season. Mitchell Gryniuk gets the win on the mound, finishing with 6.0 IP, 5 K, 3 hits, and 3 ER, Final Score: Whalers 4, Twisters 3
Wolcott Scrappers 4 Southington Gamecocks 3
Wolcott Scrappers snagged a late lead and defeated Southington 4-3. The game was tied at two with Wolcott Scrappers batting in the top of the fifth when Steve Urbanski homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. Southington got things started in the first inning when Pat Smith grounded out, scoring one run. Sean Jefferson was the winning pitcher for Wolcott Scrappers. The hurler went seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out three. Jack Drewry had a home run in the second inning to get the scrappers on the board. Urbanski went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Wolcott Scrappers in hits. Southington totaled eight hits. Nate Crocker and Pat Smith each racked up multiple hits for Southington.
Valley Ducks 5 Canton Crushers 2
The Valley Ducks and Canton Crushers battled it out in a rubber match on Tuesday night, with both teams battling more than the elements. The Ducks captured a 5-2 win. Steve Marinaro got the Quack going in the top of the first with a solo home run. The ducks pushed a second run across the plate on a Ryan Shiel single. The score would stay 2-0 until a walk and stolen base by Jimmy spirito- who would score on an error. Ben Sullivan tied the game up at 2 with Cantons only hit of the game. After nothing happened In the 6th and 7th the game went to extras. Ty Pelletier drove in the go ahead run with a bunt single, and the ducks scored two more in the inning via a 2 run single by Ryan Shiel. Zach Royka pitched the entire game for the Ducks- surrendering one hit, walking 7, and striking out 9. J Michanczyk went 6 for Canton- allowing 6 hits and striking out 5. Justin Rose went the final 2, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5.
