Winsted Whalers 7 Wolcott Scrappers 6
What was supposed to be a washout, predicted earlier in the week, ended up turning into a great night for baseball. The Whale faced off against the Scrappers in a down-to-the-wire close game. Mark Cummings started for the Whale and Ike Negretti started for the Scrappers. To typical Whale fashion, runs were given up in the first inning, but the Whale offense provided more. The first nine batters for the Whale would bat in the 1st, scoring 4 runs. Wolcott would also score 5 runs in the bottom 1st with Matt Warren hitting a two-run shot. This was going to be a long game. The Whale offense would put up 3 more runs over the course of the game with TJ Kent and Jay Torres going 2-3 while Johnny Lippincott would break out of the slump with a standup triple. Wolcott would score 1 more run with Matt Warren 2-4, S, HR, and Nolan Cloutier 2-4, S, D. Highlight of the night: Peter Greenwood, Tony’s brother, would make his first TriState appearance and on the mound. Coming in to pitch the last two innings, he would go 2 IP, 0 hits, 4Ks; almost a perfect start to his career. Greenwood and Tony are 1 of 4 brother pairs on the team this year. Final score, 7 Whale – 6 Scrappers.
Amenia Monarchs 15 Burlington Hunters 0
Monarchs improve to 3-2 with a 15-0 over Burlington. Colby Dunlop picked up the W for Amenia going 5 innings giving up 1 hit with 10 k’s. Burlington’s Ty Morin had 2 hits for the evening and Tyler Doyle set a Tri-State record with errors at 3 different positions! (Andrew Bunger wanted that in the write up)

Southington Gamecocks 5 Thunder Ducks 2
After a morning full of rain the battle of the birds (Gamecocks and Thunder Ducks) was able to commence on a beautiful Thursday evening. The southington gamecocks struck early in the bottom of the first. After a HBP to Hochberg, Tyler Fernandez (2-3 2B,3B 2RBI) stayed hot hitting a triple to deep right field. Brenden Cavaco scored him on a sacrifice fly the next AB. AJ Lorenzetti got the inning restarted with a walk followed by Angel Torres hustling out a tough play to reach base safely. Pat Raymond (1-3 2RBI) in his return snuck a ball through the infield to score both runners on some nifty base running by Torres. The gamecocks scored 1 more in the bottom of the 3rd on a Fernandez double scoring Dan Neal. Nanai led the gamecocks on the mound with 5+ innings allowing 2 runs with 5K’s. For the ducks Matt Kozlowski settled in after the first inning throwing 5 and Kyle Dadonna pitching a scoreless 6th. The Ducks mounted a comeback in the 6th after a walk and single Christian Peterson came on in relief of Nanai working out of a tough jam with the lead 5-2. With 2 outs in the 7th and a man on Shane Fusco hit a bomb to deep right center that was tracked down. Poyka also doubled for the Ducks. The Gamecocks travel to Hotchkiss to face Blasius on Sunday
