Terryville clinched its third straight regular season title last night and celebrated the birth of Player/Coach Chris Ayer’s daughter last night with an 8-3 win over Amenia. Terryville had a complete team effort with Alex Rauso and Just McCoulluch hitting back to back jacks in a big run fourth inning. Conor McEvoy had three hits and Gavin Lavallee had three doubles. Kyle Dube got the start throwing and win 3 shut out innings and Dave Alarcon got the save 4inn 1ER. The Thrasher Twins had two hits each for Amenia. After the game Terryville was invited for taco Tuesday in Amenia and after a long parking lot discussion have decided to use two of their draft picks on the couple who cooks for Amenia after their games. NOTE: This past Sunday Burlington player were treated to steak sandwiches.  Side note: Andrew Hinckley got stuck at work and did not get to attempt breaking the single season Tri State home run record which was set years ago in a 30game season. He finishes the regular season tying the mark at 9.

The Twisters ended their initial regular season with a thrilling cone from behind 8-7 walkoff victory over the Aftershock on Monday night at Fuessenich Park in Torrington. The Twisters rallied behind solo homers from David DeGrom Strager and Travis Wyant to pull even in the 6th. The walkoff came in the 7th off a hard hit ball by BCarr to propel the Twisters into a celebration. Joe Persechino was filthy providing 4 shutout innings of relief which allowed a Twister attack led by Kyle Matthews ,Jake Reynolds, DJ Reynolds , Jimmy Lamanna n Owen Soino to fight their way back. .. The Aftershock received good games from Tyler Pelletier. Leadoff hitter n Jose Altuve lookalike Buris and SS Surgis ??. Twister Assistant coach Jim Lamanna should commended for his loud and honest banter and also renting a canoe to retrieve Stragers 1st career homerun from the Naugatuck River. WHAT A GUY!!

 The top two teams in the Tri-State Baseball League proved their mettle in a 10-inning struggle Saturday afternoon.

Following a close-down COVID season a year ago, the defending 2019 league champion Terryville Black Sox stayed undefeated (14-0) on a walk-off RBI single by Billy Armstrong in the bottom of the 10th for a 4-3 win over the Tri-Town Trojans (14-2), the 2018 league champions. If lesser, more youthful powers in the 13-team adult league wonder what they’re missing, they might look at the years put in by gritty heroes on both sides of Saturday’s clash.

“I played with (veteran Tri-Town ace Miles Scribner) at WestConn, so I’ve seen him for hundreds of games,” said Armstrong, 31, who finally quit pitching himself after an injury three years ago. “I just wanted to get the ball in the air.” The ball landed safely in right field, bringing Kyle Tentehan in for the winning run. Nature provided a two-week thundering drumroll for the long-awaited clash of Tri-State titans, originally scheduled for last Friday, then rained out again this Friday. “As much as we hate to play Tri-Town, it’s the best time of the year,” said Terryville player/coach Dave Alarcon. “It’s always a one-run game and it always seems to come down to Scribner vs. (Terryville closer Kody Kerski).”

Even Saturday, an originally-scheduled seven-inning doubleheader got pushed back to a nine-inning single game to avoid predicted afternoon thunderstorms. And at times, it looked like thunder might win again before the teams were done. The Black Sox scored first on a two-run Tri-Town error in the third inning. Starter Andrew Hinckley held the Trojans at bay until the sixth when Tri-Town veterans Mike Fabiaschi and Danny McCarty came through with RBI singles for a 2-2 tie. By then, each team had just four hits, with complete-game pitcher Scribner working his magic for the Trojans and Hinckley, reliever Eli Oliphant and Kerski on their way to 15 strikeouts for the Black Sox.

But Oliphant ran into trouble in the top of the eighth, loading the bases, then facing McCarty, who, like Armstrong for Terryville, does what he can in spite of injury (a torn rotator cuff). “I can’t throw, but I can still hit,” said McCarty, normally the Trojan shortstop. McCarty poked a sacrifice fly into right field for his second RBI, scoring Matt Troy for a 3-2 Tri-Town lead. Scribner held off the Black Sox in the bottom of the eighth.

Kerski, a veteran fireballer, who, with brother Ken, comprises one of the most fearsome tandems in the league, took the mound in the top of the ninth. He struck out the first two Trojans then fielded a comebacker for the third out. Scribner struck out the first batter in the bottom of the inning, another fearsome Terryville veteran, then faced pure power hitter Gavin Lavallee — after setting him down three times before this. “I got one over the plate,” smiled Lavallee, pounding it over the right centerfield fence for the 3-3 tie and extra innings. Kerski was gold again in the top of the 10th. Armstrong summoned 100s of games of experience to win it in the bottom of the inning.

Tri-State teams without such grit and experience can wait their turn.

The Valley Ducks and Blasius Chevrolet battled it out in some Saturday action and beat the rain. The Ducks scored a run in the first and held a 1-0 lead thru out the game until Blasius finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, but the Ducks won 3-1 behind a complete game performance by Stanley Wolpiuk allowing 4 hits striking out 5 with a couple walks. The Ducks were lead at the plate by Ty Pelletier 4-4 (2 1b, 1 2b. 1 3b, 2 rbi) and Angel Valentin 2-4 (2 1b). Pelletier hit a 2 run go ahead triple in the top of the 7th to seal the game for the quack attack. Blasius was able to scatter 4 hits throughout the game.

Winsted Whalers 5 Twisters 2

It was the Twister’s first experience hearing the Whale song and it may have temporarily thrown them off their game. Winsted starter Mitch Gryniuk and Twister starter David Strager both came to play Saturday morning at Walker field, each matching each other, inning-for-inning and both hurling complete games. Strager worked around a few big hits for 8 innings and 11Ks while Gryniuk tossed 138 pitches and also had 11Ks. The Twisters were able to push two runs across in the first inning, jumping out to an early lead behind the offensive leaders Jake Reynolds (1-3, BB, R) and Jimmy Lamanna (R, RBI, SB.) After that however, the Whale Song began to take a toll. Twister’s offense was not able to quite get going for the rest of the game despite a lot of traffic on the base paths.The Whale was able to erase the Twister’s lead in the bottom of the first behind another homerun by Lukas Gryniuk.Strager was able to keep the Whale offense from gaining too much momentum for the rest of the game.  The Whalers were able to scrape together a few more runs here and there to take and keep the lead for the rest of the game. The Whale was lead at the plate by Andrew “I’mnotaleadoffhitter” Billig (2-4, 2R, SB), Lukas Gryniuk (2-4, HR, 2B, 2R, 2RBI) and Johnny Lippincott (3-3, HR, R, RBI, BB) The Whale would like to officially welcome the Twister’s to the league and look forward to years of good competition against this talented group of kids.

Plow wins 12-1 over the Rebels, Justin Koutros got the win going 6 strong allowing 2 hits 2 walks and striking out 5 while giving up 1 run, Jon Wilson and Greg Campbell stayed hot at the dish as Wilson went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and Campbell went 2-4 and adding 4 RBIs, Connor Berg also had a great day going 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored to aid the Plow attack. Teddy Gravel continued his broken bat streak  breaking his 5th bat (none owned by him) of the year at the behest of many of his teammates. The Plowboys started the year 1-5 but bounced back strong going 10-1 the rest of the year to end the regular season strong at 11-6.
