Terryville Black Sox play in first of two World Series

The Terryville Black Sox have two separate opportunities to win a World Series, in the same season. How often can a team do that?

It doesn’t happen often, but Terryville starts the first of its two World Series appearances on Friday when it plays in the American Amateur Baseball Congress Stan Musial Northeast World Series in Weymouth, Mass. The Black Sox take on All Dorchester Sports League (ADSL) at noon at Libby Field in Weymouth. Terryville is one of two Connecticut teams in the Northeast World Series, the other being the Milford Hunters.

The Black Sox are slated to play two games on Friday. They would play either the winner of Albany (N.Y.) Athletics-Weymouth (Mass.) Shamrocks game at 5 p.m. at Libby Field, or the winner of the Milford-Braintree (Mass.) White Sox game at 4:30 p.m. at Rockland Stadium in Rockland, Mass.

Which team Terryville plays depends on whether it wins or loses. The 5 p.m. game at Libby Field would be if they win their opener, the 4:30 game at Rockland Stadium would be if they lose their opener.

The games on Saturday are at Libby Field at noon, 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. The championship round games would be Sunday at Libby Field at noon and 2:30 p.m., the last game if necessary.

When the Black Sox return to Connecticut, they will only have a couple days off. The best-of-three Tri-State Baseball League World Series begins next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury. Top-seeded Terryville takes on the second-seeded Tri-Town Trojans in that World Series.
