Blasius Chevrolet 7 Wolcott Scrappers 0
Blasius playing only there second home game of the year needed to find a way to stop their slide. In times like these a team needs to dig in and focus. In a pre-game pep talk Paul Novakowski set the example the team needed to hear. One on refocusing on baseball once these step in the dugout. The players responded lead by Colby Lindell whose 3 hits and 3 RBIs out of the leadoff spot was just the spark Blasius where looking for. The biggest of Lindell’s three hits was a 3rd inning two run shot that wrapped around the left field foul pole. Lindell’s night was not all on the offensive side of the game. He played an important role as one half the battery as the New Haven Boys Tim Kennedy and Brandon Cruz would hold Wolcott to 6 hits over 7 inning of shutout ball. In the end Blasius got the win they need to start the back half of the season 7-0, and will look to continue what thy hope will be a long win streak in Torrington as they visit the Twisters Sunday. Blasius picks up win #2 on the season while Wolcott falls to 5-5.
Burlington Hunters 6 Torrington Rebels 1
The Burlington Hunters defeated the Torrington Rebels 6 to 1. The game was scoreless through the first 4 innings. Rebels pitcher Angelo Santiago kept the Hunters off balanced for most of the game. Zack Martin doubled in the 5th, finally giving him an average on the season, and Joe Tonon singled him home to break the scoreless tie. In the 6th the Hunters broke the game open by scoring 5 runs off of 5 hits. On the mound, Alec Couture had a no hitter going through 6 innings while striking out 15. Due to a high pitch count he was pulled and a single by Rebel’s Ian Bethan in the bottom of the 7th would end the no hit bid.
Amenia Monachs 12 Canton Crushers 1
The Monarchs improved to 7-1 on the season with a 12-1 victory over the Canton Crushers. The final score doesn’t accurately represent the game as the Crushers played great baseball but had one bad inning that made the difference in the game. Going into the bottom of the 4th the game was tied 1-1 as Canton starter Cam Gaudet held the Amenia bats at bay. Unfortunately for the crafty lefty and few miscues in the field and some hits from the Monarchs led to an 8 run 4th. Monarchs pitching again pitched well as 3 pitchers, Leshawn Thrasher (3 inn, 3 hits, 1R, and 6 K’s), Mackenzie Dunlop(2 inn, 1 hits, 4 K’s), and Colby Dunlop( 2 inn, 1 hits, 5 K’s) totaled 15 K’s on the day with great defense played behind them. Offensively the Crushers were led by Nick Michanczk picking up 3 of Cantons 5 hits. The Monarchs spread the 11 hits out throughout the lineup with lead off man Sam Foley going 3-4 on the night. Best part of the night was Russell Boyles getting his first AB of the season! Russell was born with Cerebral Palsy, loves the game of baseball more than anybody and is a pleasure to have in Maroon and Gold! Knowing the chances he jumped at the thought of an at bat, got up to the plate, worked a 2-1 count and was beaned in the back. He took first and tried for second on a pass ball only to be thrown out on a close play. A great moment in Amenia and a huge Thank You to Tom Dubois and the Canton Crushers! |
