Winsted Whalers 11 Wolcott Scrappers 2
The Whale beat the Wolcott Scrapers 11-2 on Tuesday night. The Whale jumped out to an early 3 run lead in the first inning and never looked back. Andrew Billig (3-3, 3R, RBI, SB), Ricky Langer (2-4, 3RBI, R) and Johnny Lippincott (2-4, 2b) lead the assault for Winsted.
Austin Brochu handled the Scraper offense and took home the win, tossing 5 innings on 65 pitches, allowing only 4 hits, 1 run while striking out 8.
Mark Cummings pitched the last two innings and continued to shut down the Scrapers, giving up one run on three hits despite an unruly bunch of spectators.
The Scrappers were lead by Puta and Mikey, each with two hits.
Other highlights include Winsted and Wolcott starting the game without umpires. The Scrapers began the game as gentlemen, calling balls and strikes from behind the dish in the top of the first until the umpires arrived late.
Winsted is back in action on Thursday (6/17) for their first ever away game at Walker Field and then play host to the Scrappers on Saturday (6/19).
Terryville Black Sox games were rained out both Monday and Tuesday.
