Jessica Stewart Update. Jessica is married to former Litchfield Cowboy player Jimmy Stewart.
Jessica Stewart has been a fighter and a positive force for anyone lucky enough to have crossed paths with her over her lifetime. Well, at this time it’s Stewart who could use that fight and positive spirit from those who know her as she approaches a tough but definitive moment in her fight against Breast Cancer. Stewart was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in June of 2018 and was scheduled to have it treated by six weeks of radiation and years of medication after consulting with her doctors. That all changed this past Monday when tests came back showing cancer cells were present in her breast tissue. The cancer had not returned but the doctors found cancer cells that could develop into cancer, so a pro-active decision was made to have both breasts removed this Friday, August 24th with a double mastectomy.
While this news hit Stewart like a ton of bricks, her attitude is good and getting better every day, thanks to the outpouring of love and support she has felt from family, friends and her community. “I don’t have to live in fear anymore,” Stewart said. “Fear of not knowing what be coming next. What might the next biopsy show.” In just over two weeks, a fundraiser is scheduled on Friday, September 7 at the Litchfield Inn from 5-9 p.m. It will be a called a “Celebration of Healing” as Stewart begins the long road of putting this entire event behind her. A buffet dinner will be served from 6-7:30 that night and raffles, door prizes and a silent auction will help raise funds to help pay for the cost associated with her fight. Radiation may still be on the table as will years of expensive medicines.
Stewart has wanted to give back to her community from the start and a significant portion or the evening will go to the Pink Rose Fund at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. The Pink Rose Fund helps supply mammograms and ultra sounds to those who cannot afford them. Tickets are $25 dollars for adults, $10 for children 5-18 with kids under five free.
