Thursday July 21:
Bethlehem Plowboys 11 Brass City Brew 7
After being down 4-0 after the top of the first the Plowboys answered with 6 runs including two 2 Run Homeruns by Mike Chiovitti and Kevin McDonnell. Jon Conlon added another solo Homerun in the sixth. Pat O’Neill battled a good Brass City lineup for the complete game win. Brass City was lead by Dwight Wildman With three hits including a double and a HR. Game #2 will be at Hotchkiss Field in Prospect at 5:45pm on Friday.
Tri-Town Trojans 13 Tribury Twisters 1
Miles Scribner scattered 2 hits over 6 innings to lead Tri-Town. Danny McCarty blasted a 2-run homerun and added a double for 3 RBIs on the day. Connor Murray (3-4, 2B) Joe Bunnell (2-2), and Hunter Grabowski (3B, 2 RBIs) all contributed with big offensive games. Tom Rinaldi had a double for Tribury. Game #2 will be Friday at Washington Park at 5:45pm.
Torrington Rebels 7 Bristol Greeners 6 (10 innings)
The Torrington Rebels beat the Bristol Greeners 7-6 in a wild 10-inning game at Fuessenich Park. Leading 6-4 going into the 7th, Torrington’s Lenyn ‘Pepe’ Napoleon (4-4, 4 RBI, 2 3B, Intentional walk) hit an RBI triple and scored on an overthrow to tie the game. The Torrington Rebels walked off with a 7-6 win after Pepe Napoleon led off with his fourth hit of the day, then stole second and third on Bristol’s first two pitches to Roberto Santiago. A throw from home plate sailed over third base on the second steal. Napoleon raced in on the walk-off error. Now living in Winsted, Napoleon has the kind of speed and power that demand attention from MLB scouts. Completing high school at Globe Tech in New York City, he’s signed up for Monroe College in New York, but he’s already worked out for the Twins. Thursday, he was major league from the start, belting his first triple of the game in the first inning to drive in Nick Yousefzadeh who led off with a walk. Next time up, in the third, Napoleon doubled to the left field wall for another run. Napoleon was by far the brightest light on the plus side of the game. Cody Lemieux also went 2-3 with a walk and Austin Patenaude went 3-5. Torrington leads the best of three series 1-0 going into game 2, Friday 5:45 p.m. at Page Park in Bristol.
Litchfield Cowboys 9 Winsted Whalers 1
Cowboys win over the Winsted Whalers 9-1. Stanley Rijo, Ed Pequignot and Chad Dickinson had RBI hits. Kevin Murray threw a complete seven inning game scattering a few hits. Cowboys take on the Whalers again Friday at Walker Field in Winsted at 5:45pm.
Friday July 22:
Bethlehem Plowboys 10 Brass City Brew 9
Paul Novakowski’s bases clearing double capped an 8 run 3rd inning to take give Brass City a commanding 9-1 lead. Bethlehem was able to cut the lead to 9-6 with a 5 run 6th inning which set up the dramatics in the final inning. With the bases loaded and one out Tony Geraci hit a base hit up the middle scoring two cutting the lead to 9-8. Again with the bases loaded and now two out, Mike Milius hit a ground ball in the hole between short stop and third base. Teddy Gravel, who was on first, was able to beat the throw to second base. There was a slight bobble and on this bobble Tony Geraci ,who was on second, scored the go ahead run. Tyler Erickson pitched the last inning for the save. Bethlehem will play Terryville in the second round.
Tri-Town Trojans 10 Tribury Twisters 9
The Trojans jumped out to a 7-2 lead but Tribury would tie the game in the bottom of the 6th. The Trojans would score 3 in the top of the 7th and brought on Miles Scribner for the win as Tribury left the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th. On offense, the Trojans were led by Steve Price (2-run HR, 2B) Casey McDonald (3-4), Joe Bunnell (3-3), Hunter Grabowski (2-3) and Danny McCarty (2-3) who had a multiple hit game. Tom Rinaldi had 2 doubles and Ben Guisto had two hits for Tribury.
Torrington Rebels 8 Bristol Greeners 3
The Torrington Rebels beat the Bristol Greeners 8-3 Friday night in Bristol to clinch the first round series 2-0. Torrington’s bats came alive in the first inning behind a Greg Bodnar two run double. The Greeners tied the game 2-2 when Omar Alcantara singled to score two runs to go ahead 4-2. The Rebels would score four more runs behind solid hitting from Austin Patenaude (2-3, 2R, 2 RBI), Chris Beck (2-2, 2B, RBI) and Nick Yousefzadeh (2-4, 2B, RBI). Cody Lemieux picked up the win on the mound allowing only 3 runs against a hot Bristol offense. The Rebels move on to face the Naugatuck Dogs next Sunday in round two of the Tri-State league playoffs. Congratulations to the Bristol Greeners on an excellent season.
Litchfield Cowboys 9 Winsted Whalers 0
Cowboys win over Winsted 9-0. Cowboys were lead by their starting pitcher Justin Binkowski who threw a complete game shutout. Andrew Gauvain and Stanley Rijo had two hits and two RBI for the Cowboys.
