Burlington Hunters 2 East Mountain Cougars 1
Hunters Jay Pelletier returned from baseball retirement today to help Burlington secure a 2-1 win over East Mountain in 12 innings in a down-to-the-wire win. Mike Bower took the mound for East Mountain, dueling Alex Stackpole from Burlington. Bower threw eight innings, scattering 7 hits and only allowing one run. Stackpole threw nine innings and scattered ten hits, allowing only one run. The Hunters triumphed however in the bottom of the twelfth inning as Ryan Mariotti came across to score. Jesus Garcia, Mike Bower, and Tyler Campbell had multiple hits for East Mountain and Brady Hecht led the Hunter’s offense with three hits. Burlington improves to 1-6 and East Mountain falls to 0-7.
Winsted Whalers 1 Amenia Monarchs 0
Austin Brochu pitched a complete game shutout allowing 4 hits while striking out 7. He was also 2-3 at the plate and scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 9th inning. Justin Morhardt had two hits including a double to start the 9th. Travis Hyatt pitched six shutout innings for Amenia. Tyler Smith had two hits. Winsted is now 4-3 and plays Wednesday at Bristol. Amenia plays on Thursday at home against Torrington.
Bristol Greeners 7 Thomaston Threshers 3
The Bristol Greeners picked up their fifth victory of the season on Sunday afternoon behind another strong pitching performance from right-hander Tom Curtin. Curtin went the distance for Bristol allowing just three runs (2 earned) while scattering just three hits. Curtin had 12 strikeouts in the game and picked up his second victory of the season for the Greeners.
Bristol got on the board in the top half of the second inning with an RBI-single off the bat of Shawn Mirmina (3-4, 2B, 2 runs scored). Thomaston responded in the bottom half of the third with a run of their own after Matt Radkey (1-3) scored on an errant throw. Thomaston added on two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. Andrew Jones drove a double to left-field which plated a run, and Andy Romano added another run with a sacrifice fly. Bristol responded back in the top of the seventh with two runs of their own. Kyle Munette (1-4, 2 RBI) drove in two runs on a single up the middle to give Bristol the 4-3 lead. Bristol would tack on another run in the seventh after an AJ Lorenzetti triple, and then another two runs in the top of the ninth with a Shawn Mirmina double and Jake Martel triple.
Bristol will be back in action on Tuesday night with an 8pm game at Rotary Field against the Naugatuck Dogs. Thomaston will play Thursday at 5:45pm as they travel to Bowdoin Field to take on the Canton Crushers.

Terryville Black Sox 8 Torrington Rebels 1
Terryville showed their depth in an all around game having 5 players have extra base hits including Kyle Skidmore’s solo shot and Ron McLam’s triple. Kenny Kerski (3-0) threw 7 innings and Dave Alarcon the final 2 innings and they combined for 15 K’s. Leyn Napolean went 3-4 with a run scored for Torrington and Ramon Santiagos had an RBI double.
Naugatuck Dogs 14 Valley Thunder 5
Lance Stevens pitched 5 innings while striking out 2 to lead Naugy to a 14 to 5 victory over Ansonia. The dogs were led by Devin Murphy who hit 3 home runs. Jeff Sturm, Sean-Miller Jones, Kyle Murphy, Trent Levi, and George Harlamon all homered for Naugy. Chris Parra hit a 2 run home run for Ansonia.
Watertown Blaze 7 Wolcott Scrappers 5
The Watertown Blaze improved to 6-0 with a 7-5 victory over the Wolcott Scrappers Sunday night. Kyle Kennedy picked up the win throwing 4 shutout innings in relief of starter Charlie Benson. The Blaze were led offensively by Tony Patane and Garrett DeLotto each with 3 hits a piece. Ryan Soucy doubled for Wolcott.
