Wolcott Scrappers 4, Fairfield 0: Jay Spear went the distance, allowing two hits while striking out nine as Wolcott blanked Fairfield, 4-0, in the first game of pool play in the Stan Musial State Tournament at the BAW in Wolcott on Tuesday.
Ryan Soucy and Jordan Perugini both had RBI doubles for Wolcott (1-0), which plays tonight vs. the Western Connecticut Outlaws at 8 p.m. at Bethel High.
Tri-Town Trojans 2, Wallingford Hurt 0: Miles Scribner went the distance, surrendering three hits with seven strikeouts, as the Trojans shut out the Hurt in a state tournament pool play game at Westside Park.
Casey McDonald went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Wayne Brewington added a hit and a run scored. John Callahan had an RBI for Tri-Town.
Tri-Town plays tonight at 7 against the Waterbury Wild at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.
Fedell’s 3, Waterbury Wild 0: Andy Eggleston allowed just one hit as Fedell’s blanked the Wild in the first round of pool play at Waterville Park in Waterbury. Tom Nagy had a two-run triple for Fedell’s. Ken Kerski allowed three hits and Christian Cuevas had the lone hit for the Wild.
Naugy Dogs 13, Brookfield 0 (5): Gary Novakowski pitched a one-hitter for the Dogs in a mercy-rule game. Ken Graveline homered in the win, and Ryan Russell added two doubles.
 
Wolcott Scrappers 4, Bethel Outlaws 3 (10 innings): The Scrappers, the home team by coin flip at Bethel High School Wednesday night, came up big in a Stan Musial Tournament game against the Outlaws, undefeated in their previous 20 games.
The Scrappers were down 3-1 after the first three innings, then tied it in the seventh. Wolcott loaded the bases on an error, failed fielder’s choice and a bunt single by Justin Koutros. Mike Vaccarelli, who scored Wolcott’s run in the first inning, pushed in another run on a fielder’s choice. Connor McEvoy’s sacrifice fly tied it up.
Wolcott starter Erik Sehnal (11 strikeouts, 3 earned runs) churned into the top of the 10th inning, refusing to budge.
Then, in the bottom of the inning, the Scrappers seized the day. McEvoy reached on an error. Adam LaCapra grounded into another failed fielder’s choice. Ryan Soucy flew into a fielder’s choice on a dropped ball in the outfield.
With runners on first and third, Jason Miller chopped a slow bouncer to short — enough for the winning run and a Scrapper celebration.
Tri-Town Trojans 2, Waterbury Wild 1: Two Tri-State Baseball League teams battled it out in the Stan Musial State Tournament Wednesday evening at Waterbury’s Municipal Stadium. Tri-Town’s Alex Hansen (5 hits, 6 strikeouts) and Waterbury’s Jim Dimon (4 hits, 12 strikeouts) held each other off for six innings.
Then Tri-Town’s Wayne Brewington drove in one earned run while an unearned run gave the Trojans a 2-0 edge in the top of the seventh.
Jack DiBiase (2-for-4), the only player in the game with more than one hit, drove in a run for Waterbury in the bottom of the inning.
Naugatuck 7  Merchants 6 (11 innings): Jeff Sturm threw a complete game: 11 IP, 5 R, 0 ER, 11 hits, 6 K’s for the win. Devin Murphy had an RBI triple, Ken Graveline had a 2 RBI triple, and Kyle Faucher had an RBI single with 2 outs in the 11th to score Ken Graveline for a 7-6 win at West Side Field in Wallingford.
