Brass City Brew 8 Thomaston Threshers 7
The Brew (3-1) fell behind early, but battled back late to edge the Threshers 8-7 at Thomaston High School on Sunday morning. Brass City scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the lead, and closer Gary Novakowski shut the door with two shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out three to earn his third save.
Justin McCulloch paced the Brew offense with a triple, two singles, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Craig Prasauckas went 2-for-5 with a trio of RBIs, while Eric Rovinetti reached base four times and scored two runs. Will Sirotnic went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs for Thomaston (0-4), while Kevin MacCallan and Shawn Magee each went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Prospect Chargers 12 Watertown Blaze 2
John Artes went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in to lead the Chargers over the Blaze at Deland Field and earn their first victory of the season. Kyle Lukas also went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for Prospect, while starting pitcher Bryan Langdon notched the win with six innings of two-hit, six-strikeout ball. Watertown suffered its first loss of the season and drops to 2-1.
Bethlehem Plowboys 8 Waterbury Wild 3
Jon Conlon homered and drove in three runs to lead the Plowboys to a win over the Wild at Gallup Field. Pat McGee doubled, singled and drove in three for Bethlehem, while Manny Cruz and Kenny Kerski had RBI singles for Waterbury.
Winsted Whalers 9 Lakeville Outlaws 0
The Whalers toppled the Outlaws in a rain-shortened, five-inning game. Mike Dew struck out four and gave up just two hits for Winsted, while Joel Castillo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Lakeville heads to Bristol tonight for an 8 p.m. game. Winsted travels to Fuessenich Park to take on Torrington Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Naugatuck Dogs 7 Ansonia Valley Vikings 6
Ryan Russell doubled home the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as Naugy rallied from a 6-3 deficit to win at Rotary Field. Jeff Sturm went 3-3 for Naugy (4-0) while Devon Murphy hit an RBI triple and Macky Cianciola an RBI single. Tyler Searles homered for Ansonia. The Valley Vikings dropped to 0-3 on the season but have lost games, 3-1, 3-1, and 7-6 against three of the top teams in the league and look to be a force to be reckoned with in their expansion season.
Litchfield Cowboys 2 Amenia Monarchs 1
Joey Serafin, former AAA minor leaguer, scattered six hits while striking out 13 to lead the Cowboys to victory. Karl Quist scored the game-winning run when Kyle Weaver reached on a fielders choice to prevent a double play. Chris Blazek had two hits for the winners (3-1) who also recieved a double from Mike Odenwalder. Travis Hyatt and Jim Pomeisl allowed seven hits for Amenia, which recieved two hits from Caleb Huff.
