Justin Koutros throws no-hitter against Lakeville
Wolcott’s Justin Koutros threw a no-hitter against Lakeville in Wolcott Sunday winning 6-0, striking out 11 in the effort, lifting his record to 4-1 this year. He struck out the side in three innings. “He started getting ahead with his fastball,” coach Ryan Souci said. “Then he started throwing curves and split-fingers, and they were just waving at it.” There wasn’t a ball that left the infield, Souci said. The one blunder was a third inning error to short — otherwise, Koutros was perfect. Adam LaCapra had two hits and two runs for Wolcott, and Mike Perugini hit a two-run single in the sixth to pad Wolcott’s lead. Eric Souci hit an RBI double, and Erik Sehnal doubled in the game.
Amenia Monarchs 7 Thomaston Threshers 5
Rookie Joe Flynn hit a two-run single in the eighth inning and Amenia trumped Thomaston 7-5 in Thomaston Sunday. With bases loaded and two down, Flynn slapped a single to right to drive in two runs, breaking a 5-5 tie. Ken Shufelt, Travis Hyatt, Tom Downey of Amenia as well as Scott Bellemare of Thomaston all had doubles.
Naugatuck Dogs 10 Bethlehem Plowboys 5
Jeff Sturm allowed five hits with six strikeouts in nine innings at Gallop Field. Macky Cianciolo hit an RBI single and also a two-run double in the eighth inning to tie the game at 5-5. In the ninth, Ryan Russell hit a two-run single to highlight a five run inning for Naugatuck (7-5). Kyle Faucher also had three hits and an RBI. Taylor Searles had a single an double for Bethlehem (6-7).
Waterbury Wild 5 Prospect Homers 2
Waterbury was led by Sean Trafford he pitched 5 innings allowed 4 hits and 8 strikeouts, Manny Cruz picked up the win in relief with 5 strikeouts in two innings, Brad DeVito had a hit and rbi while Cruz had a triple and two runs scored. Mike Valente pitched well for Prospect allowing six hits and Dan Gugliotti had two hits.
Waterbury Wild 6 Brass City Brew 0
Waterbury was led by Ken Kerski he pitched a complete game allowing 4 hits and 11 strikeouts. Brad DeVito had a triple and two singles, Manny Cruz had two doubles and a single. Mike Padovani had two hits for the Brew.
Tri-Town Trojans 4 Winsted Whalers 3
Steve Price hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to plate Nick Lahoud as the Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stun the Whalers at Community Field. Connor Murray tossed seven innings allowing four hits and striking out three while Casey McDonald added a double, an RBI and a run scored. Steve Price had two hits and two RBI while Danny McCarty added a base hit, a run scored and RBI for Tri-Town (10-3). Dan Connelly pitched 8 1/3 innings, gave up six hits and struck out nine and lead 3-0 heading into the eighth inning while Donny Crossman added a pair of hits and an RBI for Winsted (4-8).
Watertown Blaze 3 Litchfield Cowboys 2
Sean Miller-Jones hit a walk-off two-run homer with out in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Blaze handed the Cowboys their first loss of the season in Watertown. Charlie Benson fanned nine in nine innings for Watertown. Jay Spear pitched a scoreless 10th inning for the win. Chris Comeau added an RBI single for the winners. Adam Claire had two hits for Litchfield (12-1). Ed Pequignot scored twice.
Terryville Black Sox 5 Bristol Greeners 4
Terryville eeked out the victory in 10 innings on a misplayed infield ground ball. Game recap coming soon.
Brass City Brew 7 Torrington Rebels 5
Justin McCulloch and Mike Padovani each doubled and Tim McCarthy picked up the win on the mound as the Brew knocked off the Rebels 7-5. Curtis Anthony haqd two RBI’s for Torrington.
Watertown Blaze 5, Thomaston Threshers 2
In a continuation of a suspended game from June 16th, Matt Consiglio’s two-run single broke a tie in the ninth inning in Thomaston. Brett Koliani was the pitcher of record and picked up the win even though he wasn’t at the game. Connor McEvoy pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save for the Blaze.
