Litchfield stays unbeaten
Litchfield Cowboys 8 Terryville Black Sox 3
Litchfield’s Cowboys stayed pure (12-0) in the Tri-State League with a win over 3-7 Terryville at Litchfield High School Thursday evening. Kyle Hawes (4 innings, 3 strikeouts); Lee McKenna (2 innings); and Chris Blazek (1 innings, 3 strikeouts) took the committee approach to a two-hitter from the mound. Carl Quist (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored); Adam Claire (2 RBI); and Eddie Pequignot (RBI, 2 run scored) provided much of the Cowboys’ 8-hit punch at bat.
Amenia Monarchs 8, Torrington Rebels 1
Playing the second of four games in a week, Amenia turned to Zach Spencer, who threw 4.2 solid innings in a win over Torrington at Doc Bartlett Field in Amenia. Spencer, who moved on to the Monarchs after exhausting his eligibility with Amenia’s Connie Mack team, didn’t give up a run. Travis Hyatt threw the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run. On offense, Ken Shufelt had a double, single and two RBI. Tom Downey added a double for the Monarchs (6-7), who put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth. On defense, Jimmy Roberston threw out three Rebel baserunners. “Teams in the league are learning not to run on him,” Amenia manager Tom Downey said. Curtis Anthony had three hits, including a double, and a run batted in for Torrington. Ian Pierce took the loss.
Watertown Blaze 2 Naugatuck Dogs 1
Brett Koliani tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts at Rotary Field. Chris Ayer and Mike Mastrocola each had two hits for Watertown (6-3). Macky Cianciolo hit a home run for Naugy.
Bethlehem Plowboys 7 Prospect Homers 5
Bethlehem held on for a 7-5 victory over Prospect as Nick Chiovitti and Taylor Searless each had a hot and two RBI for the winners. Pat McGee had two hits and an RBI for the Plow. Sam Griffin and Chris Valente had 2 hits apiece for the Homers.
