Bristol Greeners 5 Brass City Brew 3
In game two of Friday’s doubleheader at Muzzy, Bristol defeated Brass City 5-3. Geoff Pierce went the distance for Bristol, scattering just five hits and striking out three. Matt Godbout hit an RBI triple to put Bristol on the board in the top of the second and Doug Beaudoin got the second run of the game in later in the inning with a RBI groundout to third. Brass City struck back in the next inning with two runs of their own, capitalizing on two errors committed by the Bristol defense and base hits from Matt Wahl and Steve Carosella. Rex Cone narrowly gunned down Carosella trying to stretch his single into a double to end the third inning and prevent any further damage. The game remained tied until the fourth when Shawn Mirmina drove home two runs with a single to put Bristol ahead. In the seventh, with runners on first and third and two outs, Pierce’s pickoff attempt to 3rd base caught the runner at first leaving for second base. The throw from the third baseman to second baseman Mike Zammett (1-2, 2 BB) tagged out the runner to end the game. Frank Gormley and Gary Novakowski pitched well for Brass City allowing just four base hits.
