Brass City Brew 7, Waterbury Wild 5: The Brass City Brew toughed out a late come-from-behind run to win 7-5 over the Waterbury Wild at Municipal Stadium Thursday evening. Brass City only scored two runs in the top of the first with bases loaded and no outs on a Josh Coleman sacrifice fly and Mike Padovani single. Padovani would lead the Brew, going 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored.
The Wild threatened to score big themselves in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and no outs. A double play and ground out allowed the Brew to sneak out of the inning by only giving back one run to the Wild. The Brew would jump out to a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Brass City managed to move two runners in on walks, steals, and wild pitches. Padovani also came through with his second RBI on the night with a two-out triple. Marc DiDominzio drove in Padovani in the next at bat to give the Brew a four-run inning and a 6-1 lead.
The Wild would not go away, putting together a four-run bottom half of the inning. Nick Boucher, 2-for-3, got the inning started with a base hit. Jordan Montgomery, Cody Kingsley, Ken Kerski, and Brad DeVito each drove in runs to bring the game to 6-5. Brass City added an insurance run in the seventh on Padovani’s last RBI of the night. Tim McCarthy came into the game for a two-plus inning save for Brass City and shut down the Wild for the save.
Mazda Dodge Red Devils 5, Thomaston Spoilers 4: Derek Lemay broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Red Devils improved to 4-10 on the season. That hit made a winner of DJ Dyer who entered the game in the fifth inning. Scott Bellemare added a big two-run double in the third inning for Mazda Dodge which finished with five hits for the game. Mike McHugh had two singles for the Spoilers (7-8).
Bethlehem Plowboys 5, Torrington Rebels 2: Tony Geraci had two hits (including a double), two RBI and stole three bases to lead the Plowboys to a 5-2 victory at Gallop Field. As a team Bethlehem (11-4) had six hits. Tyler Erickson started and got the win, while Rob Geraci picked up the save. Torrington (5-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, only to have the Plowboys get one back in the second, then take the lead for good with three in the third. Louie Monroe had two hits to pace the Rebels.
Burlington Hunters 15, Naugatuck Dogs 9: The Hunters and Dogs focused on offense in a game with 24 hits (15-9 Burlington) at Lewis Mills High School Thursday evening. Scott McIntyre, scorching the league for a .650-ish batting average this summer, led the Hunters (3-for-4, home run, double, 3 RBI), along with Justin Campbell (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored), Steven Popp (double, 4 RBI) and two hits apiece from Steve Dubois and John Ponte. Maky Cianciolo and Ryan Russell were each 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Dogs. Burlington tucked the game away early with a 7-run second inning, featuring two errors, two walks and four hits, including a 3-run double by Popp, followed by McIntyre’s two-run homer. Naugatuck is now 7-6; Burlington is 6-8.
Amenia Monarchs 10, Prospect Hearts 1: The Monarchs put up three runs at a time in the first, third and fourth innings to batter the Hearts into submission at Doc Bartlett Field Thursday evening. In a 16-hit attack, Joel Judson (2 hits) and Ken Shufelt (3 hits, 5 RBI) hit home runs; Steve Lenahan (double) added another three hits; and Tom Downey (double), Chris Matteo and Tim Robertson had two hits apiece. Jason Lane had two hits for Prospect (1-15). Amenia is 10-6.
Watertown Blaze 8, Wolcott Scrappers 2: Charlie Benson tossed a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a late Tri-State game Thursday at BAW in Wolcott. Justin Froese had two hits and three RBI for Watertown (13-2) and Chris Ayer added two hits and two RBI. Brett Koliani also had two hits. Adam LaCapra had two hits for Wolcott (10-7).
