Monday June 28: Winsted Whalers 4, Terryville Black Sox 2: Justin Lovetere drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Winsted Whalers defeated the Terryville Black Sox 4-2 at Walker Field in Tri-State League action Monday evening. Terryville (4-8) tied the game at two with a run in the top of the sixth. After Lovetere’s hit, Winsted (8-6) added an insurance run for Donny Crossman, who picked up the win in relief. Lovetere went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI. Charlie Putnam added a single, two runs scored, and two RBI. Dan Connelly started for the Whalers and pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits. Pat Norton doubled and drove in a run while Dave Baldyga also doubled for Terryville.
Bristol Greeners 8, Tribury Pavers 4:  Bristol bats opened up early at Bristol Central High School Sunday afternoon.  With two hits apiece from Mike Zammett, Ryan Dudzinski, Dan Rosa, Matt Beaudoin, and Geoff Pierce, plus a two-run double by Rex Cone, the Greeners posted five runs in the first inning, two in the second, and a final score in the sixth. For Tribury (4-6), Chapman went the distance, settling down after the second inning to allow just one run the rest of the game.  Dan Perez went 2-3 with 2-RBI for the Pavers.  The Pavers scored single runs in the first and third innings and two more in the fifth.  Tribury is now 4-6; Bristol is 7-4.
Burlington Hunters 9, Terryville Black Sox 6:  Burlington’s 10-4 hitters (10, 1, 2, 3, 4) combined to go 12-for-24 in a slugfest against Terryville at the Eli Terry Middle School.  Pat Flynn (2-for-4), Justin Campbell (2-for-5), Scott McIntyre (3-for-5, double, RBI), Steven Popp (2-for-5, double) and Tyler McIntyre (3-for-5) were the hitting stars for Burlington.  Jay Pelletier picked up the win and Jimmy Spirito the 3-inning save for the Hunters, who had 14 hits.  Burlington is now 4-7.  Terryville (4-7) got two doubles apiece from Sam McNeil and Pat Norton.  Dan Baccaro and Eric Baba each added one double.  Ken Martinik took the loss for the Black Sox.  The teams combined for 28 hits in the game.
Winsted Whalers 5, Brass City Brew 1 (7 innings):  Adam Piechowski struck out 10 in seven innings as Winsted won a rain-shortened game against Brass City at Walker Field.  On offense, Chris Davidson went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Ricky Langer was 1-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored.  Winsted improves to 7-6.  Brass City was led by Justin McCulloch (triple, RBI) and Steve Carosella (double, single, run scored).
Litchfield Cowboys 3, Amenia Monarchs 0: In its first of two-seven inning contests Sunday, Litchfield got the best of Amenia at Doc Bartlett Field. Kevin Murray and Carl Rivers combined to hold the Monarchs to four hits. On offense, Travis Dreher went 2-for-3 with a double while Ben Murphy was 1-for-3 with a double.  Murray picked up the win. Amenia got a double from Tom Downey. Travis Hyatt took the complete-game loss.
Amenia Monarchs 8, Thomaston Spoilers 2:  Amenia picked up homers from Tom Downey and Matt Hosier in win over Thomaston at Doc Bartlett Field.  Hosier’s three-run shot in the fifth broke the game open for the Monarchs, who also got two hits from Jim Robertson, including a double.  Brady Fontaine picked up the win for Amenia (8-5).  Thomaston’s Jacob Barbour had a double.  The Spoilers are 7-6.
Wolcott Scrappers 5, Litchfield Cowboys 3:  Wolcott got a complete game from Zack Sehnal (3 runs, 6 hits, 7 strikeouts) in a win over Litchfield at the BAW Complex.  Ed Belval went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Rob Silas walked and scored twice.  The Scrappers improve to 11-4.  Ben Murphy had two hits and run scored for Litchfield.  Chris Beach took the loss.  The Cowboys are 4-7.
Tri-Town Trojans 4, Prospect Hearts 3:  Tri-Town scored twice in the bottom of the eighth, then held off Prospect in the ninth for the win at Community Field.  Jon Smart went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI off of a suicide squeeze bunt that ended up being the difference in the game.  Casey McDonald went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored for Tri-Town (5-7).  Sam Griffin had a double while Dan Gugliotti went 2-for-4 for Prospect (1-11).
Watertown Blaze 7, Mazda-Dodge Red Devils 0:  Justin Froese and Alex Santopietro combined to hold Mazda-Dodge to five hits in a shutout win at Deland Field.  Chris Ayer (triple, single, 2 runs), Chris Comeau (triple, 2 RBI), Vic DeSimone (double), and Mike Mastrocola (double) each had extra base hits for Watertown.  Brian Lemay added two hits and a RBI.  Froese picked up the win for Watertown as they improved to 11-2.  Mike M’Sadoques took the loss for the Red Devils.
Waterbury Wild 10, Torrington Rebels 8:  Ken Kerski went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits with 11 K’s.  Anthony D’Addona came in relief in the seventh and Sean Trafford got the save (his second of the season).  Trafford helped his own cause in the 9th with a base hit, stolen base and a run scored much to the delight of his teammates.  Waterbury jumped on the Rebels early and kept the momentum swinging in their favor right through the middle innings by batting around in the 6th.  Brad Devito (3-for-6 with a double) and Fraz Kader each had 3 hits for the Wild.  Torrington catcher Jerry Colon had 3 hits for the Rebels.  Curtis Anthony had the Rebels only extra base hit with a double. Waterbury improved to 6-5 while Torrington fell to 5-7.
