Watertown Blaze 1, Waterbury Wild 0 (8 innings): An error and two singles in the top of the eighth inning of a pitcher’s duel at Waterbury’s Waterville Park finally solved a seven inning blanking by Watertown pitcher Kyle Goldstein (5 hits, 11 strikeouts, 1 walk) and Waterbury’s Ken Kerski (2 hits, 12 strikeouts, 2 walks). Watertown’s Tyler King started it with two outs, reaching on an infield error in the eighth. Then Chris Laliberte scrambled for a single off the plate and Chris Ayer hit a clean single to right field to bring home the winning run. The Blaze is 4-0; Waterbury is 1-2.
Tri-Town Trojans 3, Tribury Pavers 2: In an evening of Tri-State Baseball pitchers’ duels, Tribury’s Al Maki (5 hits) and Tri-Town’s Connor Murray (3 hits) gave up two runs in the first three innings, then held each other scoreless for three innings. The Trojans finally broke through for the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, as Casey McDonald (2-for-3, double, 2 runs scored) and Dan McCarty (2-for-3) came up big for Tri-Town. Jesse Bednar was 2-for-3, with a run scored. The Trojans are now 3-1-1; Tribury is 1-2.
Brass City Brew 19, Litchfield Cowboys 0: The Tri-State League defending champion Brew had a field day at Waterbury’s Washington Park Friday evening, starting with a five-run first inning, then building to an eight-run fifth. Cowboy pitchers added 15 walks to the Brew’s 15 hits, while Brass City’s Tim McCarthy (6 innings) and Paul Novakowski held Litchfield to four hits. Josh Coleman (3-for-4) had the biggest night at bat, with 2 three-run homers and 7 RBI. Others in the hit parade were Eric Rovinetti (3-for-5, 3 RBI); Matt Wall (2-for-3, double, 2 runs scored) and Steve Carosella (2-for-2, 3 walks, 4 runs scored). Brass City is 2-1. Litchfield is 0-3.
Thomaston Spoilers 2, Winsted Whalers 1: In another Friday evening Tri-State League game in which runs were scarce, Thomaston’s Ramon Santiago (5 innings) and Joe Deming held the Whalers to a run in the second inning, then took advantage of a Winsted error and passed balls to score a lead run in the first inning and the winner in the sixth. Both teams are 2-1.
Terryville Black Sox 7, Naugatuck Dogs 6: Eric Baba hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring Sam McNeil to break a 6-6 tie at Terryville. McNeil belted three doubles and added an RBI for Terryville (1-2). Matt Kane had an RBI single and Tim DeLarosa added a two-run single. Naugatuck (0-3) has lost three 1-run ball games to open the season.
Wolcott Scrappers 14, Prospect Hearts 0: Gary Miller and Justin Koutros each had 2 hits and scored 3 runs. Steve bernier had 2 hits including a 3run double, while Eric soucy added 2 hits and 2 rbi. Omar taveras threw a complete game striking out 7 while only allowing 2 hits improving his record to 2-0. Ross Bernier took the loss for prospect. Wolcott is 2-1. Prospect is 0-4.
Bethlehem 5 Mazda Dodge 1 Tony Geraci’s bases loaded clearing triple highlighted a five run 1st inning for Bethlehem who held on to defeat Mazda Dodge 5-1. Matt Parlatto RBI single and Dave Green 2 hits and 1 RBI. Rob Geraci (5 innings) and David Fredlund shared the mound duties for Bethlehem while DJ Dyer took the complete game loss for the Red Devils. Dyer allowed just 1 hit from the second inning on. Bethlehem and Mazda Dodge are 1-2.
