Tribury 3, Naugatuck 1
Bobby Bengivengo pitched a complete game two-hitter to lead Tribury over Naugatuck 3-1 at Rotary Field. Bengivengo walked two and struck out four. Naugatuck opened the scoring in the 1st inning when Ryan Russell walked, stole second, and scored on Bob Augelli’s one-out single. The score remained 1-0 until Tribury broke through for all three of it’s runs in the top of the 5th. Ross Allen doubled to lead off the inning, Brian Cyr walked, and Russell Stutsky reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. Jordan Kershaw (2-4, 2 RBIs) followed with a two-run single to give Tribury the lead. A deep flyout advanced the lead runner to third with one out, and Craig Prasauckas brought home Tribury’s final run on a fielder’s choice. Naugatuck would mount a rally in the bottom of the 7th with an error and a hit batsman putting runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, but a popped up bunt turned into a double play and two batters later Bengivengo struck out the final Naugatuck batter to end the game. Lance Stevens was dominant for all but one inning, finishing with 4 hits allowed, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts in a complete game performance.
Waterbury 16, Farmingbury 4
Ken Kerski pitch 7 innings allowing only 3 hits with 17 strikeouts to lead the Waterbury Wild (3-6) to a 16-4 victory over Farmingbury(0-11). Kerski added a single and triple and scored four runs. Chris Perrin had 2 triples and scored 3 runs. Spencer Griffith and Cam McAvoy had a hit and scored for Farmingbury.
Bethlehem 4, Terryville 0
In a classic pitchers duel between Jason Krajesky of Bethlehem and Dave Alcaron of Terryville that lasted only 1 hour 50 minutes, only 3 hits by Bethlehem and 2 hits by Terryville as the Plowboys came away with a 4-0 victory.
Litchfield 4, Tribury 0
Greg Gardy had it working early and often on the mound for the Litchfield Cowboys in a 4-0 Tri-State Baseball League win over the TriBury Pavers at Nonnewaug High School. Gardy induced plenty of weak outs on the way to a complete-game win (3 hits, 4 strikeouts, 3 walks). “He was very dominant today,” Litchfield player/coach Chris Beach said. On offense, Dylan Stiles went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and two runs batted in to lead the Cowboys. Carl Quist and Colin Pratt each went 2-for-3 with a double. Kyle Robinson drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. The other Cowboy run in a two-run second inning scored on an error. Litchfield is 7-4. TriBury’s Jamie Kimberley took the loss.
Mazda Dodge 4, Burlington 3
Chris Ayer pitched 5 2/3 innings of scorele4ss relief as the Red Devils rallied to beat the Hunters at Thomaston High School. Ayer (8 strikeouts) came in with one out in the fourth and kept the Burlington lead at 2-0 until the bottom of the seventh, when Mazda Dodge plated four runs of its own. After back-to-back one out walks, Will Sirotnak singled to make it 2-1. Nick Urso singled to tie the game at 2. A sacrifice fly by Jay LaFontaine made it 3-2. Derek Lemay ended the scoring with an RBI single. A Pat Flynn single in the eighth cut the Hunter deficit to 4-3 with runners on second and third (Flynn took second on defensive indifference), but Ayer struck out Ian Sullivan to end the threat. Urso went 2-for-2 with a run batted in off the bench to lead Mazda Dodge (5-6). For Burlington, Justin Campbell went 3-for-5 with a double, Jay McCluskey went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored, and Steve Dubois added a double. Sullivan took the loss in relief of Jimmy Spirito (6.1 innings), who walked two batters after a strikeout in the seventh inning. The Hunters fall to 8-4.
Brass City 5, Thomaston 4
The Brew took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth and held on for a win over the Spoilers in spite of six errors at Thomaston High School. Marc DiDominzio gave up two unearned runs on two hits in six innings to pick up the win and move to 2-1 on the season. Mike Padovani (2 strikeouts, 1 walk) came in and pitched a scoreless ninth to close the game out. On offense, Mike Verroneau went 4-for-4 with an RBI while Mike Morin (triple) and Steve Carosella (walk, 2 run scored) each went 2-for-4 with for Brass City. Mike Padovani added a double and two runs batted in while Eric Rovinetti added a double and one run batted in. The Brew improve to 9-2. Thomaston cut a 5-2 deficit to 5-4 in the eighth on a passed ball and RBI single by Joe Deming (1-for-4). Rob McHugh went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Spoilers. Matt Gasperini took the loss for Thomaston, which is now 3-9 on the season.
Amenia 14, Bristol 5
The Monarchs scored seven runs in the fourth to take a big lead on the way to a win over the Greeners at Doc Bartlett Field in Amenia. Amenia used six hits in the fourth to score seven runs and take a 10-1 lead. Tom Moore (4 RBI) and Jeff Pomeisl each had three hits while Tom Moore and Matt Hosier (doubled) collected two apiece. On the mound, Travis Hyatt picked up the win for the Monarchs, who are now 5-4. Bristol falls to 9-4 with the loss. The Greeners scored one run in the fourth and three in the seventh.
