Tri-Town 10, Amenia 9
Conor Murray racked up two Tri-State Baseball relief wins for the Tri-Town Trojans Sunday at Community Field. Murray’s first win of the day came at the end of a seven-pitcher slug-fest against Amenia (four pitchers for Tri-Town, three for Amenia). Murray blanked the Monarchs in the top of the ninth after Amenia established an eight-inning three-run lead, then settled in as his offense put up four Tri-Town runs in the bottom of the inning to walk off with a 10-9 victory. Big hitters against Amenia included Dan McCarty (3-for-5, double, RBI); Landon Gardella (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Zach Levy (2-for-2, 2 runs scored). Levy, John Conley and McCarty had RBI singles to tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, Gardella worked a full count against Monarch reliever Andrew Wolinski, then pounded a two-run single to right field for the walk-off win. Big hitters for Amenia (4-4) included Jeff Pomeisl (3-for-6, RBI, run scored), Tom Downey (2-for-5, double, run scored) and Matt Hosier (2-for-2, RBI, run scored).
Tri-Town 3, Tribury 2
In the continued game against the Pavers (5-3), Conley (2-for-3, RBI) and Gardella (3-for-3) joined Levy as key hitters, while Wayne Brewington laid the foundation in May with seven strikeouts in 6 innings. Murray’s second win came in a one-inning cameo immediately after the Trojans’ dramatic come-back, completing a game against Tribury that ended on May 26 in darkness in a 2-2 seven-inning tie. Once again on Sunday, Murray put up a zero in the top of the make-up final inning (the eighth), then reaped a 3-2 win on Zach Levy’s RBI single in the bottom of the inning. “We’re hitting, but we leave a lot of men on base,” said Tri-Town manager Ryan McDonald after his Trojans (6-3) finished outhitting the Monarchs 14-8 and the Pavers 12-4 in the narrow wins. Andrew Colon had an RBI double for Tribury.
Naugatuck 3, Mazda Dodge 1
John Tenn had a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning of a seven-inning Tri-State League game at Naugatuck’s Rotary Field to score all the runs the Dogs (4-4) needed for a win over the Red Devils (3-5). Ryan Russell (2-for-3) was the only other big hitter in a game in which Naugy out-hit Mazda Dodge 5-3. Complete-game winner Lance Stevens struck out 11 while holding them to a single run in the top of the sixth.
Bethlehem 8, Thomaston 1
Aaron Granahan collected three hits as the visiting Plowboys took the Tri-State league game at Thomaston High School. Nick Chiovitti had two hits and drove in two runs while Dave Green added two hits for Bethlehem (8-1). Jon Conlan, Chiovitti, and Granahan each had a double. Jason Krajesky raised his record to 3-0 picking up the win. Mike Hay had two hits for the Spoilers.
Litchfield 6, Farmingbury 3
Leland McKenna (2 RBI), Colin Pratt (double, RBI), and Steve Hedden (single, 2 BBs, RBI) were the big hitters as the Cowboys downed the Longshots 6-3. Kyle Robinson picked up the win on the mound. Dave Antonucci was 4-for-5 for Farmingbury while Adam Roque had two hits including a double, and Adam Marconi had two RBI.
All other games were rained out.
