Brass City 10, Terryville 0
Gary Novakowski pitched five shutout innings giving up just two hits followed by Eric Gormley and Mike Padovani each with one inning of hitless relief as Brass City downed Terryville. Brother Paul Novakowski got the Brew on the board in the top of the first inning with a two run triple. Eric Rovinetti went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, a double, a stolen base and a walk. The Brew added five more runs in the fifth to put the game away as Mike Verroneau (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI) and Mike Morin (1-for-2, 2 RBI) did the damage. Nate Gawitt and Pat Norton had the Terryville hits.
Tribury 8, Farmingbury 2
Andrew Jones singled and doubled, good for 4 RBI, as Tribury topped Farmingbury. Andrew Wanat pitched three scoreless innings and Alex Maki gave up two earned runs the rest of the way for the Pavers. America Lugo singled and doubled for the Longhshots.
Bristol 4, Burlington 3
Dan Rosa’s two-out single to the left field wall, with men on first and second in the bottom of the 9th inning drove in the winning run for the Greeners. Burlington had taken a 3-1 lead after batting in the top of the fifth inning before Rosa drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth. Bristol tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh on two Burlington errors and two walks. Geoff Pierce pitched the first seven innings for the Greeners giving up three runs on five hits before Rosa took the hill and allowed just one hit in two innings of work to record the victory. The Hunters got a multiple hit game from Jay McCluskey and an RBI single from Pat Flynn, along with a Sean Shanley double. Rosa finished with three hits at the plate for Bristol. Jimmy Spirito pitched well before being relieved by John Mittica, who pitched out of a seventh inning bases loaded no-out jam to send the game into extra innings before suffering the loss.
Amenia 2, Wolcott 1
A Scrappers error in the eighth inning with the bases loaded brought home Caleb Huff (two hits) with the winning run for the Monarchs at Doc Bartlett Field in Amenia. Huff led off the eighth inning with a single. Tom Downey added a bunt single. With two outs and the bases full from a walk, a fly ball to right dropped in for an error. Joel Judson added a double for Amenia. Tom Moore started and pitched four no-hit innings. Bobby Chatfield picked up the win in relief, giving up one run on three hits for the Monarchs. Sal Messina was the hard-luck loser for Wolcott going the distance and giving up just four hits.
Winsted 11, Bristol 3
Winsted scored at least one run in every inning except for the sixth in their win over Bristol. Ricky Langer was 3-for-3 with a walk, hit-by-pitch, and 4 RBI while Jay Levesque went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Dan Connelly gave up just three runs in six innings of work to get the win. Charlie Putnam pitched a scoreless seventh. Bristol was led by Ryan Dudzinski who went 1-for-3 with an RBI and stolen base.
Bethlehem 3, Torrington 1
Sam Iverson (CG (7 IP), 1 ER, 1 H, 11 K’s, 0 BB’s) outdueled Brandon Cardoni (CG, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 K’s, 5 BB’s) as Bethlehem escaped with a victory over Torrington. Eric O’Toole scored two runs and Jose Ortiz doubled to lead the Plowboy offense. Jay Wetherall, playing his last game in the league (he took a job as a fireman in Norwich), scored the only run for the Rebels. Meanwhile, defense starred in this game; Ortiz took a pop foul over his shoulder that drops harmlessly against most first basemen. Bethlehem third baseman Dave Greene threw while spinning 360 degrees on a tough play for the out in the second inning that made most of the crowd forget any references to Derek Jeter, much less the Twisters. Steve Richard’s rocket throw nailed Ortiz heading to third in the second inning and a breathtaking sure-handed relay from Jeremy Lovato to Darren Bragg to John Noack nearly missed getting O’Toole back in the first inning. As Peter Wallace stated, “Thursday’s game proved one more time that Tri-State is full of players with talent and desire. Come see them.”
Tri-Town 11, Waterbury 2 (6 innings due to darkness)
The Trojans scored at least two runs in four of six innings as they defeated Waterbury on a darkness-shortened victory. Landon Gardella had a two-run double and Dan McCarty also doubled to lead the Tri-Town offense. On the mound, Connor Murray went five innings, giving up one run on two hits, and striking out five while walking two. Andy Dooley finished up the game in the sixth, giving up one run on one hit. Chris Perrin tripled for Waterbury.
