Twisters Earn Manager Gregg Hunt's 200th Victory

TORRINGTON– In Gregg Hunt’s (former Bethlehem Plowboys manager) eight seasons as manager of the Twisters, Torrington has missed the playoffs just twice and reached the New England Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series on three occasions.  On Tuesday night at Fuessenich Park, Hunt furthered his legacy in the NECBL as he recorded his 200th career victory against just 144 defeats.  Fittingly, the triumph came in dramatic fashion as the Twisters pulled off a thrilling, 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Newport Gulls before 837 fans.

In typical Hunt fashion afterwards, he downplayed his accomplishment and deflected the attention towards his team.  "It’s not 200 wins for me, its 200 wins for the Torrington Twisters," Hunt said.  "I’m very proud of the success we’ve had here.  We’ve had a lot of great players that helped make this possible."  Last season (2003), Hunt led the Twisters to a 30-10 record and a .750 winning percentage, the best in league in history.  The Torrington Twisters’ 2006 season fit right in.  Like many of the others, it was excellence ending in disappointment.  The Twisters, with one of their most entertaining teams ever, caught fire at the right time and swept into the best-of-three championship series with Vermont, which they beat twice in the regular season.  The Mountaineers swept Torrington 2-0 for the title to win the NECBL championship.
